Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate the legacy of Milliron Farm and Clinic, Dr. Pete and Jody Smith.

Up, up, and away!

When we arrived in Dublin today, everyone was excited to ride in a hot air balloon. The event was planned weeks ago, cancelled several times due to weather, but this afternoon at 3:15 the Columbus Aeronauts team arrived in the parking lot of The Morgan House to greet us. You need to know I was only there for support (and too chicken). My three friends were beyond excited to go into the blue.

While we were waiting for the balloon team to discuss the weather, I remembered photos of Pete and Jody in a balloon basket. For the last hour, I've been searching through hundreds of photos to find the hot air balloon photos. Here they are, from 1992, somewhere in the western United States, probably during an AVMA meeting. Looks like Pete and Jody had an enjoyable ride.

Back in Dublin, it wasn't long before the balloon proprietor announced that the wind, now over eight knots, had become too swift for balloon travel. He said lift-off would be successful, but feared the wind would sweep the basket during landing, which could endanger passengers. We signed up to return in late Spring for another attempt. On the way home, we stopped at Barrell & Boar in Canal Winchester for supper (highly recommended).

Maybe ballooning is on your bucket list. Whatever you want to do, do it now. Time doesn't wait.

Through captivating, powerful, and emotional anecdotes, we celebrate the life of Dr. Abbott P. Smith. His biography takes the reader from smiles to laughter to empathy and tears. Dr. Smith gave us compelling lessons learned from animals; the role animals play in the human condition, the joy of loving an animal, and the awe of their spirituality. A tender and profound look into the life of a skilled veterinarian.
