Where History Meets Healing

Some places ask nothing of you except that you slow down.

Just over the crest of a quiet country road in the hills of Vinton County sits a rare piece of Ohio history—a lovingly restored 1880s sandstone cottage, one of the state's few remaining octagonal barns, peaceful pastureland, a spring-fed pond, and spaces that seem designed for conversation, creativity, and reflection.

We're exploring the possibility of bringing together a small group of  entrepreneurs, creatives, and community builders to become the next stewards of this extraordinary property.

Not simply to own it.

But to preserve it.

To share it.

To allow others to experience the same peace that we felt the first time we stepped onto the grounds.

A Place Designed for Gathering

We imagine a destination where people reconnect—with nature, with one another, and with themselves.

This could become a home for:

• Wellness retreats

• Yoga and mindfulness weekends

• Intimate weddings

• Family celebrations

• Creative workshops

• Leadership retreats

• Farm-to-table dinners

• Seasonal festivals

• Artists-in-residence

• Music beneath the stars

Not every event needs to be large.

Some of the most meaningful gatherings happen around a fire, on a porch overlooking the pond, or inside a beautifully restored historic barn.

More Than an Investment

We believe businesses can be profitable without sacrificing purpose.

This isn't simply about purchasing real estate.

It's about preserving local history.

Supporting rural tourism.

Creating opportunities.

Building a destination that strengthens our community while leaving something beautiful for future generations.

Each partner would bring their own experience, creativity, and strengths while sharing in the long-term vision of the property.

Why This Place?

When you arrive, something changes.

The world becomes quieter.

The sandstone cottage feels as though it's always belonged there because it quite literally has—it was built from stone quarried across the road.

The historic octagonal barn stands as a reminder that beautiful craftsmanship lasts.

The pond reflects evening sunsets.

The gardens invite slow walks.

The screened porch encourages conversations that last long after dinner.

This isn't manufactured tranquility.

It's authentic.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking individuals who believe that success can be measured by more than profit.

Individuals who appreciate history.

Who value community.

Who dream of building something lasting.

Who understand that preserving beautiful places is just as important as creating new ones.

Whether your background is hospitality, wellness, education, finance, agriculture, event planning, marketing, or simply a love for bringing people together—we'd love to begin the conversation.

Mylee's Corner: Best Ninja Creami Recipe

Best Ninja Creami Recipe

In November 2024, I purchased a NinjaCreami for my mom's birthday. She wanted it to make slushies and ice cream, and little did we know we’d fall in love with it. We’ve made plenty of ice cream and slushies, but my favorite is the protein ice cream. If you’re craving sweets but also need to increase your protein, these recipes are perfect for you!

I’ve made the basic flavors such as chocolate and vanilla. These only take three simple ingredients:

1.     Milk

2.     Vanilla or chocolate pudding mix (I use Great Value)

3.     Protein Powder

In the cup that comes with the Creami, add milk until it’s right below the freeze-fill line. Then add one packet of pudding mix and two small scoops of protein powder. Mix it up and let it freeze for 12-24 hours.

After freezing, let it sit out on the counter to thaw. Then add a little more milk and put it into the Creami and push the knob over to the ice cream setting. It’ll mix for about two minutes, and then your ice cream is ready! If you don’t eat the entire cup, you will have to refreeze it and mix it again when you want more.

Another one I made was a birthday cake, which is a very similar process to the others. Instead of milk and protein powder, I used a birthday cake protein shake and birthday cake pudding mix (Sonic brand). You’ll go through the same process of freezing and mixing. It comes out thicker than the other ones, you can add milk to thin it out if you prefer. You can also add sprinkles and birthday cake cookie dough bites to make it extra delicious!

These three are my current favorites, but I will be trying more soon! It’s the perfect sweet treat that helps me reach my protein goals.

Mylee's Corner: Beauty doesn’t have to be expensive

Beauty doesn’t have to be expensive

It is very common for women to use makeup and skincare products. Skincare can be beneficial and makeup can be fun for many. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to buy the most expensive products for good quality. Many affordable brands and products work just as well.

SHEGLAM is an affordable makeup site. I looked into this a few weeks ago when I saw a review of their products on TikTok. The prices are lower than those of some products you can find at Walmart. The quality is great as well. I purchased a liquid highlighter, liquid blush, liquid contour, and a setting spray. The liquids went on smoothly and gave a glowy finish to my makeup. The packaging is adorable as well. It is a sister company of Shein, a popular, cheap clothing site. The products I received were only around $4-$6 and were as great as the Fenty Beauty products I have purchased.

As for skincare, I’ve bought many things from Dollar General and Walmart that have done wonders for my skin. Snail Rescue toner by Peach Slices is a common drugstore product that cleared my skin. I’m not prone to bad acne but every once in a while I’ll get a wave of it. I use the toner almost daily and it feels refreshing on my skin. Biore Pore Strips are another item that I frequently buy. It works wonders at pulling dirt out of my pores.

If you have sensitive skin, or like to watch out for certain ingredients, then there’s an App where you scan the barcode on your skincare products and it will give a rating out of 100. It also tells you the harmful ingredients and the good ingredients. The App is called Yuka. It does an amazing job at letting you know what you’re putting on your skin.

Beauty doesn’t have to be expensive. You can use quality ingredients and get amazing results for less. Drugstore products are just as good as name-brand products, and you should never feel ashamed for using affordable products.

Mylee's Corner: Spring Cleaning

The Benefits of Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of year again. The flowers begin blooming, and we say goodbye to the snow. While some may say the tradition of spring cleaning is pointless, it does have some benefits.

Spring cleaning can be linked to spirituality. I use it to remove any negativity and gloominess that may have been brought in during the winter. I am highly spiritual and believe that cleaning can remove negative energy and bring positivity into the household. However, if you don’t believe in that, there are other benefits to spring cleaning.

It is common for people to feel down or unmotivated in the winter. With the cold weather and the gloomy atmosphere, people would love to cuddle up with a mug of hot chocolate and watch a movie. You may not feel as motivated to deep clean during the winter which makes the beginning of spring the perfect time. The sun is coming out and the weather is warming up. Soon there will be flowers everywhere that give the world a pop of color. The atmosphere may bring some extra motivation to you to be productive and knowing your space is clean may bring you some joy, it sure does for me.

Spring is also a common time for allergies to flare up. Pollen is falling from the trees and flowers and many people are allergic to common spring plants. Freeing your home of dust and pollen will make your allergies a little better. Your home can become a safe space from all the allergens found outside.

I typically start my spring cleaning around early March. It can honestly be fun to pop some headphones on, play your favorite songs, and get to cleaning. It’s not for everyone but if you’re intrigued you should try it!

Mylee's Corner: 5 Things to do with your partner on Valentine's Day

5 Things to do with your partner on Valentine's Day

February is here and love is in the air. Flowers are displayed in shop windows and heart decorations are everywhere. If you’re unsure of what to do for this special day, then you’re in the right place! Here are five date ideas for Valentine’s Day.

The first one may be common but it can still be a great time. Make reservations for a fine dining restaurant. This gives you the chance to buy a new dress or wear one you already have. Spend a romantic night out with your partner and enjoy some delicious food. Alfonso's Italian Kitchen and Bakery in Lancaster and Cutler's Restaurant in Athens are two places on my must-visit list.

The next one is perfect for a more laid back and cozy night, going to the movies. Movies Ten in Nelsonville has an arcade with a wide variety of games that you can play before the movie. Grab your favorite candy, popcorn, and some drinks, and settle in for a movie. The new Avengers movie comes out on Valentine’s Day as well if you’re a marvel fan.

This next one is better if you live in a warmer area, a picnic. Buy a cute basket and fill it with snacks and stuff to make lunch. Travel to a nice park near you, lay down a blanket, and enjoy a lunch in front of beautiful scenery.

This one is on my to-do list for Valentine's Day. Go to your favorite bakery and get some heart shaped pastries. The Hocking Hills Donuts and Coffee Shoppe has some adorable cake pops, donuts, and other treats that are heart themed. I’ll definitely be making a trip there.

Lastly, for all the introverts, spend a night inside. You can create a surprise for your partner by cooking dinner and setting up the table with red and pink decorations. You can even use fake rose petals and red confetti. If you purchased a gift, create a trail of confetti leading to the location where the gift is placed. Light some candles, put on some music, and create a romantic night in with your partner.

All of these are great options that will make for a fun night. Whatever plans you have for Valentine’s Day and whether you’re spending it with friends or a partner, make the most of it!

Mylee's Corner: The Art of Scrapbooking

Mylee's Corner: The Art of Scrapbooking

With the beginning of the New Year, it’s time for me to start my new scrapbook. I started this hobby in the middle of 2024 for me and my boyfriend. We had a lot of plans for the summer and I wanted to record them. I love taking pictures because it keeps memories alive forever and I often sit and reminisce about past events. It’s the best idea I’ve had to date.

My mom also loves to craft, especially with her Cricut, so she has a lot of cardstock paper. I use that as my base and glue pictures onto it. I write a title at the top and put stickers and gems on the pages. I plan to make a trip to Hobby Lobby sometime soon to gather more supplies so I can have stickers that match each theme. There’s a page for holidays such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day as well as pages of places we’ve visited and events we’ve attended. There’s a page full of movie tickets and a miscellaneous page for events that I didn’t have many pictures of.

This has become one of my favorite hobbies. Visiting Walmart to print pictures has become a monthly trip for me. I love finding the perfect spot for each picture and remembering the event as I glue them down. It’s a simple hobby that takes some time and creativity. It’s quick and easy, yet the outcome can be beautiful. I highly recommend it, especially if you’re a sentimental person and love capturing memories as much as I do.

I made many mistakes last year, such as the texture of the scrapbook, the writing utensils I used, my decoration choices, and so much more. I’ve learned from all those mistakes and I know I’ll make a few more with the new book. That’s all part of the process, making mistakes and fixing them as you go. It’s the perfect hobby that I can see myself continuing for a long time.

Mylee's Corner: Christmas Tradition

Christmas Tradition

It’s finally December, which means it’s time to start planning all of the Christmas events I’ll attend this year. Over the past two years, my family has grown a lot. My boyfriend and his extended family are now part of the picture, making for a busy but exciting time around the holidays.
The Alley Park Christmas lights are the first thing my boyfriend and I go to at the beginning of the month. We went on December 12th. They have beautiful lights, as well as cookies and hot chocolate. It’s not super crowded and easy to navigate. We have a great time walking through and admiring the bright, glowing lights.

Next, we have his family's Christmas event at a cabin. It’s an all-day activity with a pool table, hot tub, gift exchange, and much more. There’s a huge menu, as is typical for our holidays, with enough food for everyone to have multiple servings and accommodate everyone’s tastes. Having good food is always close to the top of the priority list.
Christmas Eve is when my family holds our events. We’ve always gone to my dad’s and had pizza together before opening gifts. Sometimes we order from a pizza place or make French bread pizza at home. Either way, it’s a fun time. We all stay for a few hours and enjoy each other's company before heading home to our own houses.
On Christmas Day, we venture to my boyfriend's house first. This is a much smaller gathering with only the immediate family. The menu is smaller this time, but there’s still plenty to go around. A Christmas Story plays in the background as we all open gifts and chat. I enjoy getting gifts for people, so I watch everyone as they open mine. After a few hours, we leave and have Christmas at my house. I typically make coffee or hot chocolate, and we pass out the gifts to everyone.
The Christmas season is busy and involves a lot of running around and preparation. I couldn’t ask for it to be any other way. I love being part of a new extended family yet still having our small get-togethers. Christmas will always be my favorite time of the year.

Merry Christmas!

Mylee's Corner: New Media +

New Media +

Joining the New Media + program at Tri-County Career Center and High School has been the best decision I’ve ever made. I joined this program a little bit lost, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my future but know that I enjoy writing stories. I also post a lot on social media about world current events and my stance on them, I thought joining a journalism program would help me find my way.

I quickly fell in love with journalism. I love writing stories about things happening in the world. I enjoy getting out there and interviewing people, as well as sharing factual information to educate people. As we started working with video, audio, and photography, I realized I love it all.

In this program we learn about photojournalism, telling stories through pictures. We put together photo galleries and photo essays of different events that happen locally. We also edit videos. We’ve put together many videos showing off the different programs at Tri-County. We’ve also done many commercials for programs as well as outside businesses. Some of us have even started our own podcasts that we work on in class.

Our instructor, Mr. Higgins, is a great teacher. He’s great at giving us hands-on experience and teaching us how to navigate the different tools that we use. We learned so much from him during two years and it’s really fun. After leaving this program I know I will be equipped with skills I will need to become a journalist.

If you’re looking to become a journalist, photographer, video editor, podcaster, and more, New Media + is the program for you!

Mylee's Corner: Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee, Logan, Ohio USA

Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee

The Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee held its 4th Annual event on October 26, 2024, in Logan, Ohio. It was put together by the Logan Town Center Board. It was the perfect event for the whole family.

There was a Treat Walk where 12 numbers were placed on the ground and one kid stood on each number. When the music played, the kids would walk, and when the music stopped whoever was standing on the number that was pulled at random won a treat. Many kids won and got to pick treats from Maya Burrito, Hocking Hills Bagel Company, and more. Then kids got to dance to Halloween songs such as The Monster Mash and the Adams Family theme song.

There was also a raffle for a PS5 and a gift basket with portable speakers, candles, and more. Trunk or Treat was set up all throughout E. Main Street. There was also a costume contest and the opportunity to get pictures taken with a haunted background at Hocking Hills Portraits.

The costumes all looked amazing and throughout the event you heard kids laughing and having fun with their families. The Jubilee is set to continue in the future so make sure to check it out next October! I had a great time and so did many others.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "Have You Heard" Celebrating the Legacy of Ed Bruce with the Release of His New Christian Country Album November 1, 2024 – Nashville, TN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Have You Heard: Celebrating the Legacy of Ed Bruce with the Release of His New Christian Country Album

NOV. 1, 2024 – Nashville, TN

The esteemed legacy of country music icon, Ed Bruce, continues to flourish with the release of his highly anticipated third Christian Country album through Music Row Talent Records, "Have You Heard." Now available on all major streaming platforms, this album stands as a testament to Bruce’s remarkable contribution to Christian country music, showcasing his deep, resonant voice intertwined with timeless country vibes.

Produced by Ed Bruce along with fellow friends and songwriters Jeff Elliott and Mike Morgan, "Have You Heard" encompasses 12 tracks that delve into themes of faith, redemption, and hope.

Larry Black, host of the popular TV show "Larry’s Country Diner," penned the heartfelt liner notes, saying, "When I began producing 'Country’s Family Reunion,' Ed was there, ready to sing the new songs God was giving him. I loved seeing the Ed I had played on the radio, met at the airport in Dallas, and later listened to as he brought his new music to life. It was a blessing right up till the end... and his music lives on."

Ed Bruce, who passed away on January 8, 2021, at the age of 81, was a renowned country music singer-songwriter, celebrated for hits like "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" and "You're the Best Break This Old Heart Ever Had." His profound influence continues to resonate through this posthumous release.

Songwriter and friend, Mike Morgan, shares, "It is a gift to all the fans who have supported and loved Ed’s music throughout the years."  Jeff Elliott added, “It is a reflection of Ed's passion for music and storytelling. We were deeply moved to help produce this album."

Scott Ross of CBN recalls an interview with Ed as he explained his moment of saving grace out on a tractor and how his life was changed forever. Scott relays...

“I started singing a new song one day. I just started singing it. It was just, 'Here it is!' I began with the chorus and wrote the rest later that day. The lyrics begin... ‘He lives. He said He could. He lives. He said He would. He lives. He said we should believe in Him. If we have faith with Him, there is a place through Him. We have grace because He lives.’"

Have You Heard is now available for digital download, and CDs can be purchased through Bandcamp.com. The album includes the following tracks:

THERE’S A HAND
THE PLAGUE
HOW MUCH LONGER
COWBOY COMMUNION
HAVE YOU HEARD
HE IS WITHIN YOU
THE HAND OF THE MAN
IF ONLY I HAD BEEN THERE
WELCOME HOME
HE LIVES
IN THE GARDEN

J.A. Hall: My Mother's Poetry "Tinkle the Tailor"

My mother, Clare Oxley, was born in Standerton, South Africa. She and her brother, Michael, lived on her maternal grandfather's plantation. On the plantation they grew beautiful flowers which would be cut and sold to people in the cities. When mother was four years old, she started her formal education. Mother was sent to Saint Ursula’s boarding school in England.  It was at Saint Ursula's that mother wrote her poem booklet.

When mother finished her formal education at Saint Ursula’s School, she enrolled at the Victoria School of Nursing. Mother's nursing duties sent her to the 7505th United States Air Force Hospital, which was located at the Royal Air Force Station, Burderop Park, Wroughton. My father was stationed at this USAF Hospital and when he saw my mother for the first time, he knew she was the one. They married and had three children.

From Athens County, Ohio, USA, J.A. Hall is an award-winning children's literature author. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication Studies from Ohio University in 2013. A retiree of Ohio University, Hall spends her time as the proprietor of Little Meadow Farm, an animal sanctuary, where all types of animals find their forever home. She is a member of the ASPCA as well as an active supporter of animal charities. Follow Hall on Facebook @ Little Meadow Farm.
