Milliron Monday: New Forest Pony Junco

Abbott "Pete" Smith D.V.M.
June 16, 1938 - February 22, 2010
Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate the legacy of Pete Smith, D.V.M., and  Milliron: Abbott “Pete” Smith, D.V.M. The Biography (Monday Creek Publishing 2017), including his wife Jody (1938-2021)

But one thing that is truly magical about the New Forest National Park
is the 3,000 or more New Forest ponies which freely
roam the heathland and woods.

When Jody talked about Junie, her eyes sparkled with magical memories. Junie was a beautiful New Forest pony and the story of how he came to Milliron Farm is legendary. The story was told to me several times by Jody and Jerry Hartley

Jerry is a good friend of the Smith family. A seasoned horseman, he knows a lot about horses and their care. The story begins in Rockbridge, Ohio, where Jerry purchased Junie as a stallion. However, things took a wide turn and in the end, Jerry gifted Junie to Jody. Junie was gelded and became Jody's beloved companion. She broke him to drive and to travel the trails of Milliron Farm. You can read Junie's story in Milliron: The Biography
