Milliron Monday: March

Abbott "Pete" Smith D.V.M.
June 16, 1938 - February 22, 2010
Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate the legacy of Pete Smith, D.V.M., and  Milliron: Abbott “Pete” Smith, D.V.M. The Biography (Monday Creek Publishing 2017), including his wife Jody (1938-2021).

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot
and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light,
 and winter in the shade.”

― Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

Journal Entry March 4, 1997: AJ, GW here; played outside. Pete got 83 Jeep from Lloyd Elliot, client. AJ, GW, Puff, Cinder, I walked in bottom. SOSHA meeting at Marilyn Wentworth's, Pete spoke on vacc. reactions; I had nice chat with Chuck Blythe and daughter; watched remainder of Frasier; turned horses loose.

Just a typical day at Milliron Farm. Jody was diligent about her daily journal entries. We can envision her busy hours with grandchildren (AJ, GW), Pete's antics, community commitments, important friendships, and, always, horses. She enjoyed the aesthetics of Federal Creek in March, as well as the Ohio University symphony.

Journal Entry March 6, 1997: did dishes, Pete lunch 3 pm, surgery, Dr. Rhoads; Puff, Cinder - ran in spring pasture, up creek, beautiful blue clay - all leaves washed away, stream had been out of bank everywhere, new channel where ripples coming in from side; 2 sets of deer in hay meadow, reset dog trap; fed at barn. OU symphony, great cello music.

Hope you're keeping a journal, too.

Have a great week ahead.

Through captivating, powerful, and emotional anecdotes, we celebrate the life of Dr. Abbott P. Smith. His biography takes the reader from smiles to laughter to empathy and tears. Dr. Smith gave us compelling lessons learned from animals; the role animals play in the human condition, the joy of loving an animal, and the awe of their spirituality. A tender and profound look into the life of a skilled veterinarian.
