Milliron Monday: 1960 - News from Fort Collins

Abbott "Pete" Smith D.V.M.
June 16, 1938 - February 22, 2010
Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate the legacy of Pete Smith, D.V.M., and  Milliron: Abbott “Pete” Smith, D.V.M. The Biography, including his wife Jody (1938-2021).

"It is a real pleasure to work out-of-doors after
almost two years of nothing but school all day long."
Dr. Pete Smith

From the 1960 Smith archives, letters Pete wrote to Jody's parents from Fort Collins, Colorado. When Jody's parents passed away, Jody stored the letters in a cardboard box. The letters are slightly faded, but the sentiment shines...

Dear Haleys,
A somewhat belated but very sincere thank you for the very nice birthday presents. I wear all the shirts and like them very much and of course money always comes in handy to put it mildly.
Jody is coming along very well. As you know she has only gained about eleven pounds actually and so feels quite fit - fact is I can hardly get her to nap. Seems that being in the country helps pass the time quite a bit too.
We've been having weird weather lately with ninety degree temperatures one day and downright cool the next.
Birky has been a pretty good boss - stays out of the way most of the time. Certainly is pretty out there - we enjoy it more every day.
The house in town is coming along quite well though there is lots of work still to be done with light fixtures, linoleum, painting, paneling, and a lot of plumbing still to go. It's nice that we don't have to live there while I'm making such a mess or we'd really be having a time.
Guess that's about all the news from here at present though it shouldn't be long now until I have something new, different and wonderful to report.
    Yours with love,
    Pete

The "new, different and wonderful" would be the birth of their baby girl.

Have a great week ahead.
