Winter love

I see her through the window
my chin up to the sill
tippy-toed

Her brown coat matches her fuzzy ankle boots
her fancy scarf jiggles around her head
in the snowy breeze
she’s my mom
I love her

The cattle see her coming
their breath steams
in the winter air
their brown and white bodies lumber to the pond

She takes the shovel
starts a watery hole
they take turns
curly white faces dipping

Gloved hands are turning and waving now
my face curls up
she’s my mom
I love her
