Jerry Maldonado

Thanksgiving is next week. Most of us in the United States will be surrounded by our family, a huge turkey and cranberry sauce, warmth, and love. Others will not be as fortunate.
Recently, a fellow writer became jobless. It is with sincerity that I ask you to read Jerry Maldonado’s story and help him out, if you are able. Jerry has two beautiful daughters who he keeps in daily contact with via his facebook page; however, being a divorced parent isn’t easy and Jerry needs our help. By blessing others, we are blessed. Thanksgiving and thankful hearts should be for every one - every day.
Jerry writes…
On September 9, 2014, I was let go from my employer. In a nutshell, I was fired for writing on facebook. Not for writing on facebook, but for what I was writing facebook. You see this is a lot today as your personal life is open to the world. I'm still in shock as to why? My words are always to my girls and no one ever knew where I worked, nor was it posted on my page. Was this a legal case? Yes it was.  Was this a Civil Rights issue? Yes it was.
Instead, I used my writing and created a group www.facebook.com/groups/MyStory.OurFuture on my page to help others realize the implications of such an open forum and use caution.
Forward to November 8, 2014: After depleting the savings to live on and help from others my car was ultimately repossessed several weeks ago. This did not stop me as I’ve walked everyday looking for work. Some days the miles are endless but I keep looking and after hundreds of e-mails, applications, and business cards I have come here.
The Dream:
With transportation I would have access to the Connecticut metro areas. These areas of Hartford and New Haven County have the best chances for me to become involved with larger companies with profitable incomes. All funds would be used to cover the purchase of a used car and fees needed to operate. I just want to find good employment and take care of my girls.
Most don’t realize that as soon as all of this occurred (before the car was taken and I take complete responsibility for) I had gainfully acquired (3) jobs. One was an Election Reporter (AP), Retail Merchandiser, and Third Shift Hotel Manager. Sadly all were taken or had to resign because it required travel.
The Request:
The hardest thing about this is just asking. When I was told to possibly look at something like this and researching the stories I did not feel alone. I see the situations people have gone through and the impact of their stories and how it changes lives in an instant.
The rewards for your help would be extensive. I will personally contact each and every one with documentation, pictures, and information to show progress. Above it all is the intention. In other words, this request is not just to help someone, but to help someone create something. From the smallest donation to the biggest I will be forever grateful and will have my life dedicated to all of you. That’s the point of this site and honest intentions of those in need.
Thank-you all for this time…
God Bless,
J

Iron Gait Percherons

A Christmas Message from friends at
Iron Gait Percherons Draft Horse Rescue …

Dear Horse Lover,

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Seasons Greetings from Iron
Gait Percherons (IGP) Draft Horse Rescue. I wanted to again say
thank you so much for your continued support of IGP this year. It is
through a lifetime of education and great love and respect for the
horses that we formed IGP, and we have grown and accomplished so
much in these first few years of operation. Please help us continue to
raise the bar by rescuing, rehabilitating, and adopting out even more
of these "Gentle Giants" in 2014!

These are tough economic times for everyone, which has especially
impacted non-profits like us. Our success is significantly determined
by your generosity, and every little bit counts! No one at IGP
receives a salary and 100% of donations go directly to supporting this
cause. In addition, we have undertaken great efforts to minimize
costs and streamline processes in order to bring the most value and
impact to your donation dollars without affecting the quality of our
care. BUT WE CAN DO SO MUCH MORE! We need to expand our
programs. Your generous donations of any means will not only help
us maintain the daily cost for rescuing, training, and caring for these
magnificent animals, but help us to do so much more. We can't do
this important work without you!

Please take a moment to review our most recent campaign for Junior
Cong and consider donating to help make surgery possible for him.
Global Giving Campaign for Junior Cong This campaign is not only
important for Junior Cong, but also for IGP to be able to expand our
fundraising visibility via the Global Giving programs. Thank you so
much.

For the Horses,
Denise S. Polydor

Daryl Boyd

From Galena, Ohio, USA, meet Daryl Boyd, President Arthrogen GmbH. A successful corporate executive, Daryl interviews about his horse heritage as well as breakthrough technology in the world of horse medicine….

Tell me about growing up on your Grandfather's Ohio farm and your Dad’s farm in Michigan….
My grandfather’s small farm was north of Toledo, Ohio. The farm had horses, cows, chickens, pigs, field equipment and an old car he drove to the farm. Yes, I can never forget that farm. You see, my cousin (who now is a doctors) at age 3 and 2 respectively, decided to stay in the car one day. And unfortunately for my granddad, he left the keys in the car.   My cousin had the steering wheel and I was on the floor manning starting the engine, and mashing the gas pedal. Needless say we hit a telephone pole, almost ran over my oldest brother’s leg, and crashed into a brick wall….. so we were told. We woke up in the hospital and our names were written in the local newspaper captioned; “Youngest 2 drivers in Ohio have their 1st car accident!”

My dad’s Michigan farm, I only periodically visited him up to the age of 9 or 10. My 1st encounter with farm life was at age 3. One of my brothers and I walked outside through the kitchen into the backyard toward the huge red barn. And what was waiting for us was the meanest rooster on Earth. His name was Tom. Tom spread his wings started squawking and chased my brother and me - crying for our lives back into the house. My dad conveniently got the broom and quickly tamed ole Tom. What I remember most was getting lost in the tall corn fields and loving every moment, until the neighbors 2 hound dogs chased me home.

My experiences with horses dates back to my beginning at my grandfather’s farm. Whenever I wasn’t assisting wrecking my grandfather’s car, I was held onto a horse. My long term encounters with horses were many summers as a camper at YMCA Storer Camps as they were called in the day, located in Napoleon Michigan. Later in College, I became a camp counselor.  When the advantage of being a counselor, I could ride horses almost every evening. My favorite horse his name was Chief. On a background of white Chief had large gold spots with occasional black spots. He was a leader of the pack. Chief had a reputation of only letting a select few ride him. If we were out on a ride with the campers, Chief would see to it that before the ride was over, I’d be ridding him. I wanted so very badly to buy this horse. He was my first horse I loved, and I think he felt the same way.

Now you travel the world representing GOLDIC.
What is GOLDIC?
As far as application for horses, we are selling GOLDIC enhanced Gelsolin for lameness regeneration. AND to be certain, we can regenerate ligaments, tendon and cartilage in all animals.

With 6 weeks to go for a jumping competition, Commander was treated with GOLDIC. Commander competed without any sign of lameness or pain. Commander is now 19 years old and still competing today.

Watch the video with Dr. George Veith, DVM, Germany; Dr. Professor Ulrich Schneider, and Commander....

GOLDIC is a key technology…on the basis of patient own blood (autologeous),  under presence of gold particles we can induce defined cytocine production. Love Sonnet...

Love Sonnet To My Wife
George Hancock, 1917-1992

Who is this girl?
This woman on the pillow next to mine;
Who lies to rest beside me?
On the pillow next to mine.

This is she whose life I share
In all the things I do.

The toil that is so wearying
No chores of which are new.
The humdrum work of day goes by-
Its tedium marks the time,
Until the day is ended
And she rests on the pillow next to mine.

My arms with love reach to her;
Now man is growing bolder.
Her head must leave that pillow
And rest upon my shoulder.

Love of long years triumphs
As increase it does billow.

Sweet, blissful, and eternal love
Comes to me from that pillow.

Jay Nocera of Niche Cartoons 2012
Love Sonnet to My Wife

George Hancock, 1917-1992

I discovered this poem while sorting through my mother’s things after her passing in 1998. Faded over time, it is hand-written in perfect penmanship on a fragment of wrinkled white stationery.

The poem was buried in one of her bureau drawers amongst the old-style embroidered hankies and never-worn kidskin gloves. The original poem is now framed and preserved for the next generation.

My parents were private people and never really revealed much about their relationship to anyone. My sense is this poem was written many years ago at the mid-point of their marriage and lives.

George and Mary met at a USO dance in early 1942 in Fresno, California, then a small town in California’s Great Central Valley. They were married in April of 1942 just before my dad shipped out to Burma to serve in the Army Air Corps, Intelligence Unit. My parents did not see one another again for more than four years.

My parent’s third date was the wedding ceremony where they met to exchange vows. Before this occasion, conversation was by letter or phone. It still puzzles me how my dad proposed, but I guess he found a way.

Years later when I was nursing, one of my patients turned out to be an old Army buddy of my dad's. (Life is one big circle.) When my parents visited him, my dad’s old chum remarked, ‘…..George and Mary are as much
in love as the day they married….they skipped into the room holding hands….’

My father passed away just two months shy of my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. In a sentimental mood, my mother once remarked that dad chose this time so he did not have to say he had been married 50 years.

I am publishing this poem to give tribute not only to my father’s poetic verses, but to an extraordinary love shared by two ordinary people during extraordinary times.

May we all know such love before life’s end.

Murray Alfredson, Poet

Night piece
by Murray Alfredson

The owls rebuked me. Silent as stars they came
on still wings, lit wings, bellies agleam from street-
and park-lamps; stars they were, those strong, those
silently ongliding points of brightness.

They took them forms of birds in approaching, fleet
and silent birds commanding the shadowed park;
that silence, rippling rush of silence,
called on the sensitive ear to hark them.

The stars are gods, they tell us of old, so far,
so vast they cannot know that we men have hearts.
From sea, from mountaintop we see them
(moon set or hidden, and all else blackness).

They thrust long spears though ages of empty dark,
sharp points of light that tremor against our eye;
and steeled restraint of vibrant shoulders
coldly compels us to kneel and worship.

But who would dream to gaze from the noise of streets,
the blaze of lamp and neon, toward the sky?
We’ve pitched a tent of glare above us,
shielding ourselves from those night-honed lances.

Yet still the high gods come, in a kinder form:
they slip beneath our dome of defense as hawks
of night and haunt the air around us,
patiently calling our eye and wonder.

How many, many nights have you flown above
and I not seen you, gods in the flesh? How long
had you to wait before my heart’s door?
Brain was so buzzing, I failed to hear you.

Charles A. Black, Equestrian

In memory of a great equestrian Charles A. Black, who I had the pleasure of meeting the summer of 2012. Thank you, Charles...

BLACK Charles Arthur, passed away 12:03am Friday, August 3, 2012 at his horse farm on Route 50, Chillicothe, Ohio, USA. He had been ill only the month of July. It was his wish to live to be 97 years. He was born in Myra, West Virginia, USA, on August 1, 1915. Charles lived to be 97 fulfilling his wish to be as old as his father. He was born to R.L. Black and Leva Spurlock Black who preceded him in death. Charles was a trainer of Saddle Bred Show Horses and was well known for his fine stable. Charles attended many horse shows in the Tri State Area. He is survived by a sister Nina Cantley, two nieces and three nephews and many cousins of the Black family and his beloved companion, Alice Beatty. Charles was in service to his country during World War II. He helped send pack mules to Asam, India, during his service years. Charles was an excellent trainer and breeder of the American Saddle Bred Horse. He served under General Patton in the Louisiana Maneuvers. Charles married Daisy Nichols Black who preceded him in death on July 18, 2000. Daisy and Charles gave their farm to Ohio University for the benefit of handicapped and disabled children. They were also instrumental in the establishment of the Pioneer School in Chillicothe. Charles felt that his greatest achievement in his life was serving in the Quarter Master Remount Service for his country. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and the Victory Medal during his time of service. He served in the Quarter Master Depot Remount - Calvary Division during World War II. Funeral services will be held 10am, Thursday, August 9, 2012, in the Ware Funeral Home, Chillicothe, OH, with Pastor Jim Eberts, of the Truth Church and Rev. Gerald Erter, of Concord Church Methodist officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Sharpsburg, KY, where there will be military graveside rites.

Help Heal us All

Random Acts of Kindness, Help Heal us All

by Kerry M. Thomas

Founder of Thomas Herding Technique

Late last night while at the airport in Philadelphia I had the very fortunate opportunity to help a total stranger.

As I was walking along I heard a very soft voice behind me calling “Sir, Sir”… and I turned around to find a small older lady, dragging along behind her a well-worn piece of luggage, who seemed to be down on her luck. She looked to me shyly and proceeded to explain in a worried tone that the ATM machine, near us, was not working properly and she was afraid she would miss her train from the airport to home, she couldn’t buy a ticket with credit because she had no cards anymore and she was 16 dollars short in the cash department, was there any way I could help her? I heard then the announcement for the aforementioned train departure time… I smiled at her to which she seemed surprised.

Now I am no man of great fiscal depths by any stretch, but I did have 30 bucks with me, ten for parking and 20 just in case… and I nodded. “Of course I can,” and handed her the 20 with a smile and told her “Happy Holidays”. Now I tell you I have already received my gift this season, the smile almost to tears of this woman I did not know, a fact which matters not. She is a fellow human being, and that is all that really matters.

I thought about this all the way home and the reason I am sharing this story is not because I want a pat on the back ‘atta boy’… but because at the moment I was confronted with the decision to help or not, my thoughts immediately traced back to those poor children, and adults, and all the families, and all of us as human beings sharing the world together; well I knew I had learned a lesson from this tragedy… it’s time we take pause, it’s time we put down our technological devices long enough to roll up our sleeves and start looking out for one another, it’s time we listen, not read a text, an email, it’s time we stop blaming objects, it’s time we stop depending on mind altering drugs to solve our problems, it’s time we start really paying attention to the silent struggles, and recognizing to, the silent heroes that are among us, it’s time we held a door, lent a hand, embraced emotional communication, it’s time to stop being an activist and being more active, more responsible, more caring and empathetic to all people, all cultures, all beliefs.

It’s time we show the world that random acts of kindness, in small but powerful steps, are helpful steps toward healing all of us. It’s time we ask, how much do we really care, because caring is not a word to be held at vigil, it is not a word to be plastered on our social media, our stump, it is nothing with any meaning at all without itself being an act.

We are, all of us, responsible for ourselves and for one another, our world. We should not, nor need not a Government, a Star, an Athlete, to lead us when it comes to our own feelings and to tell us what is right, what is wrong. All this starts within. In the mirror of denial can we find a great many ails of our collective society. When we can communicate only with words and coded shorthand but fail when it comes to emotional communication, the very fabric of life itself, we are missing out on the essence of our lives in my opinion.

It’s more important for us to inject the goodness of our hearts into the world silently than it is to stand with a candle and tears on TV. Those poor children knew not the depth of bitterness and sadness that seems to be put on display each day in our “news”… hopefully they only knew love, laughter… happiness and excitement about being alive and did not have to be told how to be happy, by a drug, a doctor, because they held the beauty of life within them that we all held and hold if we look, if we reach inside ourselves… if we really want to honor these children, their families, and each other, try reaching inside a little deeper, you might just find something we seem to be told does not exist… hope.

A Poem by Hollie

Would that I could be the light lingering softly
and oh so delicately upon your skin. A warm caress.
That brightness that wrinkles your nose
and produces a full body sneeze. The breezy breath
of floral fresh.

Would that I could be the conflagration burning
beneath your breast, that pounding muscle,
in your chest.

Wish I were the dream that feeds you life,
a simmering whimper escaping your lips,
as you succumb to the ministrations of another.

Strangle the senses drawing them tighter,
binding them to the urgency of me,
who wants only to be the man you see.

Would that I could be the silky comfort
that wraps you in sleep: safe, secure.
Would that I could exist as a languishing touch
resting against your hand,
cradled by your love as the babe in need.
