Milliron Monday: Voice Notes

At Monday Creek Publishing/barn office.

Abbott "Pete" Smith D.V.M.
June 16, 1938 - February 22, 2010
Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate the legacy of Pete Smith, D.V.M., and  Milliron: Abbott “Pete” Smith, D.V.M. The Biography (Monday Creek Publishing 2017), including his wife Jody (1938-2021)

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven...
Ecclesiastes 3:1

I recently found an old cell phone in the bottom of a dresser drawer and remembered why I was saving it. It has several years of voice notes - the interviews for Dr. Smith's biography, Jody's stories, and more. Besides stories of Dr. Smith, Jody told tales of her youth, college days, early marriage, motherhood... and horses. I think they are worth sharing and believe that you will find joy in listening.

This excerpt was recorded in my barn office with Jody and Jerry Hartley. Good times...

History, memories, friendship - I will share more on Milliron Facebook and our YouTube channel in the near future.

Save the Date:
Jody Smith’s “life celebration” will be held at 3 pm, September 3, 2022, Church of the Good Shepherd, www.CHOGS.org, 64 University Terrace, Athens, Ohio 45701 (across street from Ohio University’s “Alden Library”). Jody married Pete Smith DVM (1938-2/22/2010) on 9/4/1959. Frosted sugar cookies and Arnold Palmer lemonade will be served, following the Episcopal Service, per her request.

Through captivating, powerful, and emotional anecdotes, we celebrate the life of Dr. Abbott P. Smith. His biography takes the reader from smiles to laughter to empathy and tears. Dr. Smith gave us compelling lessons learned from animals; the role animals play in the human condition, the joy of loving an animal, and the awe of their spirituality. A tender and profound look into the life of a skilled veterinarian.
