Milliron Monday: Edgar Cayce 5 11 2020

Abbott "Pete" Smith, D.V.M.
June 16, 1938 - February 22, 2010

For, he that expects nothing shall not be disappointed, but he that expects much -

if he lives and uses that in hand day by day - shall be full to running over. - Edgar Cayce

Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate the legacy of Pete Smith, D.V.M., and  Milliron: Abbott “Pete” Smith, D.V.M. The Biography (Monday Creek Publishing 2017). A graduate of Colorado State University and a well-known veterinarian in southeast Ohio, Dr. Smith continues to motivate and inspire.

I don’t know exactly when Dr. Smith became interested in Edgar Cayce and the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.). I know that my own dad was a fan of Cayce and read many of his books. One day when Jody and I were randomly chatting in my office, I just happened to mention Edgar Cayce. I have a couple of Cayce’s books on my bookshelf. Jody explained that Dr. Smith was extremely interested in Cayce and had read all his books. In fact, Jody and Dr. Smith attended a meeting once a month at a local friend’s house to discuss Cayce's books/holistic philosophy.

Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) was known as the Sleeping Profit… “an American self-professed clairvoyant who gave 14,306 psychic readings while allegedly in a self-induced sleep state.” He spoke about the lost city of Atlantis, the supernormal, reincarnation, health, and more. His books are intriguing and informative.

In the 1970s, the Smith’s attended an A.R.E. meeting in Ohio. The guest speaker was Cayce’s oldest son Hugh Lynn Cayce (1907-1982). Meeting Hugh Lynn in person was a great experience for the Smith’s. Jody remembers the event and Hugh Lynn’s “charismatic personality” - Jody explained it as an "aura" around him.

One of the stories I remember reading about Edgar Cayce is that he was in a high-rise building ready to step into an elevator. He looked at the people already in the elevator and could not see their auras. Instinctively, he did not get on the elevator. A very bad thing happened, the elevator crashed killing everyone inside.

If you remember my post about The Urantia Book and that it is/was an important book in the Smith library, there is a connection between Cayce and the book. This is documented in Edgar Cayce and The Urantia Book, written by John M. Bunker and Karen L. Pressler (2012). Possibly, Dr. Smith was introduced to The Urantia Book through A.R.E.

A.R.E. continues to be a “Body, Mind, Spirit Resource” for many. I know people who often reference Cayce’s dream journal (there’s an App for that). Maybe Dr. Smith did, too. Maybe he was a dreamer; a visionary. Most great people are.

There is progress whether ye are going forward or backward! The thing is to move! - Edgar Cayce

Keep dreaming. Keep moving.
Have a great week ahead.

Through captivating, powerful, and emotional anecdotes, we celebrate the life of Dr. Abbott P. Smith. His biography takes the reader from smiles to laughter to empathy and tears. Dr. Smith gave us compelling lessons learned from animals; the role animals play in the human condition, the joy of loving an animal, and the awe of their spirituality. A tender and profound look into the life of a skilled veterinarian.
