Mylee's Corner: New Media +

New Media +

Joining the New Media + program at Tri-County Career Center and High School has been the best decision I’ve ever made. I joined this program a little bit lost, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my future but know that I enjoy writing stories. I also post a lot on social media about world current events and my stance on them, I thought joining a journalism program would help me find my way.

I quickly fell in love with journalism. I love writing stories about things happening in the world. I enjoy getting out there and interviewing people, as well as sharing factual information to educate people. As we started working with video, audio, and photography, I realized I love it all.

In this program we learn about photojournalism, telling stories through pictures. We put together photo galleries and photo essays of different events that happen locally. We also edit videos. We’ve put together many videos showing off the different programs at Tri-County. We’ve also done many commercials for programs as well as outside businesses. Some of us have even started our own podcasts that we work on in class.

Our instructor, Mr. Higgins, is a great teacher. He’s great at giving us hands-on experience and teaching us how to navigate the different tools that we use. We learned so much from him during two years and it’s really fun. After leaving this program I know I will be equipped with skills I will need to become a journalist.

If you’re looking to become a journalist, photographer, video editor, podcaster, and more, New Media + is the program for you!
