October 1980

·        Worked at clinic

·        10 PM left for Cleveland/Akron 

·        Arrived Holiday Inn 7:30 am; A.R.E. [Association forResearch and Enlightenment] Seminar

·        A.R.E. Seminar: exercise, meditate > Reid Huntley rode home with us

·        Worked at clinic > Jan mowed lawn > went to Nathan Driggs funeral with Brent and Pat > called Aggie, Gary

·        Rode Junie, saw 2 deer, herded sheep out of hay meadow with Junie > Pete, I, rode most of evening

·        Pete to Charleston > ran errands, talked with Jerry Svenson[?], got new snow tires, Ferd Hack’s, got groceries, talked to Jackie Jones > went back in after Pat at Russell’s > took Junie/Apple to cliff pasture, drove Junie, Jelea over > to Dutch Creek, down 690, back, past Wagner’s > Pat found Great Dane at Warmke’s, put her in clinic > wrote letters, called J. Warmke about Great Dane

·        Pete home 2:30 am > worked at clinic, Pat went after vaccine > used Jim to get sheep out of hay meadow

·        Put sheep into garden with Junie > Pat and I rode, saw 2 bucks dueling > sat with Douglas’ (UPS Driver) at CJ’s, prime rib, long wait (homecoming

·        Early Church, Coffee Hour with K. Dewitt, L. Larson, etc. > Pete worked on house driveway, filled holes > rode over to trailer, back in dark > back for calls at clinic

·        Worked at clinic, lots of surgeries, took Pete’s lunch down > J. Svenson stopped at clinic, Jerry/Jolene took GreatDane [I believe this is Drawbridge] > to play “Da” at Mem Auditorium, had hot chocolate and pecan pie

·        Rode Junie around thru woods, took Streak, Puff > Ellen Goodman’s lecture > clinic dinner at CJ’s

·        Wes cleaned out chimney, burlap soak of bricks > clinic, lots of surgery > Betty/Abbott called > Pete on calls late

·        Ran errands > Pete, Wally, painted lower roof > Pete and I rode, saw squirrel hunter, back in dark, galloping along ridge > went after charcoal for poisoned dog, stopped at DQ

·        Pete bitten by stray dog, cut wedding band in half to get it off > Worked at Clinic

·        Worked at clinic, Pete on calls

·        To Church, ate at OU Inn > to clinic, Junie caught in fence by shed above hay meadow, rode with Larry/Robin, brought horses over, burros followed us into woods > ate at Sizzling Steakhouse

·        Worked for Nanette, mailed bills at Post Office on way to work at clinic

·        Dewormed sheep clear back in blackberry meadow > Pete rode after burros over at John Wheeler’s (Woody Stanley), “herded” them back > Pete worked on roof > left Pete’s books (for spurs) at “foundry”, picked up Jelea in Nelsonville, met Jessica/Carol J. at Roots, had dinner, drove on to Quarter Horse Congress, Pete treated horses there, watched Jolene, reining, sat with Hopkins, I drove home, tired

·        Worked at clinic > groomed, sprayed dogs > put sheep into garden area > Pam Collier called

·        Worked over by pond to check out buzzards, salt gone, took Puff, Streak > went to Charleston with Pete, stopped at antique/junk place, dinner at Nancy Bonnett’s, Nancy went on calls with us


November

·        Took old rug out, put one from Mom/Dad in living room > dinner at OU Inn with Sturbois, Bryan Miller, Polled Hereford group, Pete spoke

·        To Church > beautiful ride, saw Rita St. Clair riding and saw John Brenner (wood), saw 11 deer, huge buck, wide rock coming back > dinner, Pizza Hut, movies “Private Benjamin”, “It’s My Town”

·        Voted > saddled Apple, led him down, brief ride before dark

·        Painted woodstove 1st coat > worked at clinic

·        Wood stove, 2nd coat > Athens County Fairgrounds > to Charleston, Beth B., dinner at Nancy Bonnett’s

·        Tied up, hayed horses and burros > Paul S. brought goat > Carl shod Junie/Apple > Pete dewormed, floated, burros/horses

·        Pete dewormed goat, tet shot > saw deer in hay meadow, ram killed goat > lunch at Hartman’s cabin > Pete home for dinner, chow Mein

·        To Church > Pete put tractor up, got horses in, deburred them > Pete and I  went on long, pretty ride by Jan Crall’s, down trail above park manager’s house to Peach Ridge, stopped at John Brenner’s new house, down to reservoir above 550, stopped by Tevis’ iced tea, etc., Will was there, rode in up past John’s, down Hooper Ridge > practiced shooting .22 off horses, Junie worse than Apple > went to symphony, talked to Tony Coleman

·        Jan, Jelea, worked on roof > wrote Mom/Dad

·        Pete on calls > answered phone at clinic (Jelea, hay mow; Nanette, dentist), Jack Norris called, Wellston, said Pete had not been there > rode over to Thompson’s, showed Tracy some trails in woods > 3-7 am, cried off and on, little sleep

·        Pete home 8:15 am, speeding ticket, etc., we talked > worked at clinic > to bank, Pete/Pat, new truck, and cashier’s check for speeding ticket > Pete took deposit in, brought back hot fudge sundaes

·        Pete, Wally, tractor, worked on roof > went on calls with Pete, Caddy [Cadillac] stopped 4 or 5 times > to Leslie’s, dinner at Susie’s, home 3 am

·        Worked at clinic, took station wagon, 2 trips, for calf at Amish farm

·        Went after fuel filter for Caddy > to Hilferty’s Barn/Studio Opening > picked up Thompson’s, dinner CJ’s, bluegrass Mr. Bojangles

·        To Church, Bishop Black > worked at clinic > rode, put up wood cutting sign > Pete watched “Godfather” on TV

·        Cleaned ashes out of stove, worked at clinic > Pete examined OU laboratories > worked at desk, typed Letter to the Editor

·        Pete paid off Marie Parsons truck loan > Pete rode Apple, worked on well > cow call in Albany > dinner CJ’s > to movies

·        Pam Collier here > went on call with Pete to Claire West’s, saw calf and foal born

·        Pete used my car for calls

·        Worked at clinic

·        Betty called > I called Mom > dewormed sheep, goat > Pete slaughtered 2 lambs, Pat took them into Seaman’s > read by fire

·        Early Church > Pete logged > Pete and Wally moved hay to clinic barn, straw to farm barn, used Buddy Syck’s truck > rode Junie, showed Jan Crall (on foot) ridge trail > Carol James, huge feed, took hot cider, rum, cold cider > picked up Pat’s curtains > took money to Jack Norris, Wellston, Marie Phillips place > read by fire

·        Pete got 3rd garter snake out of crack in basement > worked at clinic

·        With Pete to Charleston, Rock Springs, Nancy Bonnett had dinner, and went on calls with us

·        Home 1:30 am, up at 5:30 am, packed, left for New York

·        Delicious dinner with Jim, went for walk around property

·        Rained, lunch with Ann Carter, visited Arts/Crafts Fair, dinner party

·        All together for breakfast, left for home, trucker’s hogged highway, some snow, home at 10 pm

·        Church > Pete, Carl L., Pat, put up chain-link to repair hay meadow fence > Pete took bulldozer, drug logs across entrances, put up HWPO signs > rode Junie, put burros, goats in

·        Pete hunted > rode Junie > drug deer down lower gas line road for Bob E. > Pete napped

·        Brought in doe, young buck on pack saddle with Junie, helped Pau with Sally (St. Bernard) fear of horses > rode back thru Phillip’s place, saw Bob E. looking for wounded doe

·        Beautiful day > Jan, Jelea, took ladders, chains, ropes, etc., off roof > Pet eon calls > rode Junie, Pete rode Apple, saw 1 deer, saw 6 more > Pete, Buddy Sykes, worked on logging sled

·        Rode Junie, saw 3 deer, back thru Lucas’ barnyard, shyed on way out > Dave Smart cut Pete’s, Pat’s, Jessica’s hair

·        Rode around upper woods, put up four signs > Wally, Jelea, Pete, here for lunch > hauled doe down to Wagner’s, hauled doe down to Dutch Creek for Bob E.

·        To Church > Pete, Buddy, worked on logging sled > rode out thru ridge down Dutch Creek, back along 690, 550, dark > cut up, froze deer

·        J. Hopkins, helper, here for lunch > cooked large venison roast

·        Eslockers, Pete, Warmke suit > ran errands > CJ’s with Buddy and his wife, to movies

·        Went on calls with Pete, Newt Humphry’s, dinner at Nancy Bonnett’s, 2nd dinner at Pam S.

·        Took check to prosecutor > picked up watch

·        Pete, Barbara, went on calls, stopped at Jack Norris’, Wellston, checked on animals > typed up PCA letters for legislators > fed at barn > read by fire

·        Pete jogged > went to Church, Coffee Hour with Catherine DeWitt, etc. > low pressure regulator at clinic frozen, gas blowing out of hot water heaters > looked for horses, Pat found horses with motorcycle > rode out thru New Covenant Ridge, logging road, down thru Wagner’s, upstream, looked for telephone poles > went to see airplane, saw Bookman’s > copied, mailed PCA letters

·        Worked at clinic > wrapped Christmas presents for mailing, sorted thru mail, burned 2 dog food sacks > Pete, Pat, Carl, cleaned out basement > Mac’s, Pete’s pants sewen up  > Pete took sled, cut firewood above hay meadow shed, saw grouse, big buck > hot chocolate by fire, Pete cold, sore throat > Pete to Engle’s, vetted 3 cattle > dinner at CJ’s, Jazz, played an Irish Jig when we got there, Freddie P. there

·        Worked at clinic, Nanette ill > milked Faline, cold, sore throat, put out bale of hay, fed geese, got in wood > read by fire briefly

·        Fever 102, listened to Christmas carols/records, fell asleep in chair, Pete on couch

·        Carl, Pat, Pete, here for lunch > Pete, I, read b fire, brought apples and squash to basement

·        Pete on calls, took Wally > our horses got into a little grain at clinic barn

·        Pete Church, I stayed home, still bad cough > Carl, Pat, Pete, Buddy, and daughter, here for lunch, cooked steaks at fireplace > fed at barn > movie with Sycks, my cough is worse

·        Shopped, took Puff > dropped present off at Pam’s > surprise birthday party at Joanne Larson’s

·        Up at 2 am, wrapped presents, etc., to 5 am, polished furniture > backed 2 pumpkin pies > Marshall, Ed Carroll arrived > staff potluck dinner > Christmas Eve Service

·        Christmas Day > Jim arrived

·        Marshall talked and talked, then left > Pete horse surgery > Jessica, Teresa’s funeral > Jim showed video tapes on TV screen > ate at CJ’s, Pete, Jessica, Jim, me to movies

·        Slept in > fed at barn, ewe ill/down, put her and 2 others in shed > picked up Collier’s, Pat, Marla, left for Nutcracker Ballet, Columbus

·        Dropped Jim off, Craig, SunPower > Church and Coffee Hour > Jim left > fed at barn, Pete vetted sick ewe > Pete trimmed horses’ feet

·        Worked at clinic > Pat hit fawn

·        Pete, breakfast at Jan Crall’s > signed checks for UPS > Pete here for lunch, then on calls, took car down hill > ram knocked Lolly down > Pete home late

·        New Year’s Eve: Put up old gates on sheep shed > Pete worked on gates, bulldozer > read, bed by 10:30
