This Week @ Monday Creek: Mae-Lynne Makers Studio, Nelsonville, Ohio

A sample of the fabric donated to Mae-Lynne Makers Studio

A local quilter received an ultimatum from her husband to either find a place for all her quilting supplies or he would throw them out! Consequently, I acquired two large bags of fabric, which were clean and in good condition. Most of the fabric had been intentionally cut into pieces for quilting, with some already sewn together, forming the beginnings of a patchwork quilt. Strips and panels were prepared in specific sizes, ready for assembly – a valuable collection of clean fabric for any quilter.

Knowing several individuals who might appreciate the fabric, I opted to contact Mae-Lynne Makers Studio, a local business specializing in quilting. Upon calling the studio, I initially assumed that "Mae-Lynne" was indicative of Asian heritage. The shop owner confirmed her interest in the fabric and informed me that I could drop it off any day except Monday, as they are closed on Mondays.

Yesterday morning, I visited the studio and was warmly greeted by Cheryl Howe, a studio instructor. She expressed enthusiasm about the fabric and was eager to see the patterns and designs. I asked for “Mae-Lynne” only to find out that the proprietor’s name is really Carol, and the shop is named after Carol’s granddaughters, Mae and Lynne. In the back of the shop, Kathy Morrow was instructing her Beginning Machine Embroidery class. The group was engaged in creating a lovely fabric tray with a machine-embroidered flower on the inside bottom. The atmosphere was vibrant, with sewing machines humming and creativity flourishing.

The shop is stocked with high-quality fabrics, pattern books, sewing tools, and creative ideas. The instructors are welcoming and ready to assist. For those interested in attending a class, more information can be found on their website. Mae-Lynne Makers Studio is a gem in southeastern Ohio. Thank you to Cheryl and Kathy for the warm reception.
