January 1981

·        New Year’s Day: 4:30 Dinner Party at Thompsons, helped with dishes

·        To Hartley’s, chili

·        Early church > worked at clinic, answered phone > Pete, Wally, cut wood > wrote letters > rode Junie, took Puff, Streak, cold (12), beautiful snow/ice > read by fire

·        Helped Pete/Pat load hay out of hill barn for clinic

·        Prayer group > Will, looked at basement plumbing > “oven lamb” ewe, twins > Will put up hay racks at barn

·        Pete helped feed at barn, went on a call with Pete, poodle c-section

·        Early church, coffee hours, Reid Huntley/Prophets > worked at clinic, fed lamb goat’s milk, other twin died > helped Pete with firewood/chainsaw, I drove Rover back, he brought bulldozer/sled back for repairs

·        Clinic chimney roof fire, Pete extinguished it, went on calls with Pete to Amish farm > to John Baldwin’s sculpture exhibition, watched movie filmed at Biltmore Estate

·        Slept in > Will, Pete, played chess after lunch

·        Helped deliver black lamb

·        Checked sheep > prayer group > with Pete, ate at Oasis, went through lithograph exhibition/artifacts gallery

·        Harp concert, saw Rome Warmke

·        Pete, Barbara S. here for lunch > beautiful moonlit, snowy ride, hushed, alien world

·        Christian Education class, OU Inn

·        Worked at clinic > Teresa here for lunch (nurse, observing at clinic)

·        Separated wether ewes left at clinic barn, Orphan Annie, set of twins > Western ewe, set of twins > got dog licenses > V. DeWitt picked up rejected floppy ear ewe lamb > C.E. Meditation class > dinner CJ’s

·        Worked at clinic, began phoning clients with overdue bills > Teresa here for dinner > Dave Smart cut hair

·        Pete, Nanette, on calls to West Virginia > prayer group, took Puff in car

·        Worked at clinic > Pete, Will, played chess at lunch > veterinary salesman here for dinner

·        Pete, Barbara, on calls > got billy goat, young, black, tan, $30, put him with Faline

·        Early church > John W., Pete, here for lunch > cut firewood, sunny 50s > rode Junie, took Puff, Streak, ice under grass, mud

·        Worked at clinic > Teresa here for dinner > Carl Meeks shod Junie, Apple

·        Worked at clinic > Will, Pete, played chess after lunch > sheep in meadow, put chain across gate, turned ewes/lambs out of pens into shed, Will tacked up boards to keep billy goat out of alleyway

·        Pete, Jelea, photographer, on calls > worked at clinic

·        Faline broke down door, billy goat, ram began to fight

·        Western ewe, twins in meadow > went on calls with Pete to Bookman’s, dinner at Wiggins

February

·        To Church, beautiful rainbow > looked for ewes in rain > Bonnett’s here for lunch, J, Barbara S > found ewe, 2 black, grey lambs, put in pen

·        Chip Gamertsfelder photograph assignment > castrated lambs 10 w, 2 ewes > Will, Carl, Pete, Chip, here for lunch

·        Went to Charleston with Pete, supper at Bonnett’s, home 1 am

·        Good living > lunch with Carl, Pat, at Perkins

·        Early church > Pete, John, here for lunch, moved wood pile afterwards > rode, wind blowing/cold

·        Worked at clinic > hill icy, rain melting ice > emergency collie surgery

·        Took lunch down to Pete > dinner Kerry, Joetta’s, J, Barbara there

·        To church > Pete in surgery > grouse hunting Herbie Everett, GS Pointer > rode Junie, walked up/down hills, talked to Jan Crall

·        Worked at clinic > Will, Pat, Pete, here for lunch, played chess > Teresa here for dinner > read Pat’s paper

·        Pete on calls, Charleston > caulked sheep feeders

·        Left for Columbus “Screaming Willies” Pete rode bull, Carl, Jelea, Nanette, Tim, stayed at Patricia Black’s mothers, Margaret Hopper

·        OVMA meeting > Lazarus, Chinese restaurant

·        Prayer breakfast, Dr. Akers there > Lunch at Ohio Center, met J, Jelea, Nanette > sheep seminar, Pete met me there

·        General session, went out after cylinder for log splitter, Victoria V. animal behavior seminar

·        Last day of OVMA, Episcopal Church service, lunch at German Village, bookstore, Indian art shop > home, Pete found ewe/lamb, locust gone > meditation class

·        Worked at clinic, took lunch down

·        New lamb, black socks > picked up Will, ate at Casa, to movies

March

·        Church, OU Inn, clinic, Pete dragged dead ewe out, very light drizzle, rode around hay meadows, up ridge (no trail), thru Phillip’s Place, Pete turned in logging road, Apple wouldn’t walk; Junie, I, saw three deer > Pete, Carl, Pat, got chickens, dogs, from Marie Phillip’s place

·        Will fixed well pump, foot valve > meditation class

·        Pete to Charleston with photographer > Church, lunch at Woolworth’s > paid real estate taxes > Marshall’s dog loose

·        To Jackson Courthouse, Wellston prop deed

·        To Wellston, gray cat escaped again, talked to Rev. Malloy, looked at church, old coach inn, Ray Croxford, Belgian horse owner talked at length

·        To Church, took Jan Crall’s mother, coffee hour > Junie lame, abscess > Ann Howland, Jerry Hilferty, Cornish game hen, talked till 2 am

·        Ill most of week, Pete let sheep out

·        Worked at clinic, AC Courthouse, gas oil leases

·        Early church > worked at clinic > Will, L Tevis here, walked over ground for sale; dropped tapes off for Jan Crall; measured trailer > rode Junie, Pete rode Apple, pinto ewe/black twins

·        Pete to Charleston > churned butter

·        Worked at clinic > Marshall picked up dogs, camping

·        Ran errands, gave Darlene S. ride home > Pete on calls with Barbara S., me – Hines’ cows, stopped at Connor’s

·        Took DeWitt’s lamb to yard (doghouse) then pen in barn

·        Pete began planting garden > ewe lamb, new twins on bottom > went on call with Pete, lame horse, Jack Miller

·        Early church > rode, met Ann, Jerry, they came back by gas line road, we rode around, stopped and talked to Jan, David, saw fox, skunk (twice), several deer, fell asleep reading at table

·        Up at 4:30 am, wrote letter to Mom/Dad > walked Puff down after newspaper

·        Put chickens back in with Jim > sheep out on highway, cobbled up gate, sharp wire end of long bottom > went on calls with Pete, Engle’s, Larry Smith, etc., ate at DQ, long conversation, made me feed late, Pete helped

·        Barbara Parsons, Ru, Pat, Teresa, Pete, Will, here for lunch > worked at clinic

·        Pete, Barbara S., to Columbus > Ad to Messenger, stopped at Dr. Abfall’s clinic, met Kathy > prayer group > dropped jumps off at Pam Cullison’s

·        Pete home 3 am, car quit > lunch at Casa

·        Pete cut up, Pat, Ru, me, packaged 2 lambs > rode Junie, Pete rode Apple > on calls with Pete to Lairds

·        Early lunch > Pete, Jessica, me, to Mansfield, talked to Mom/Dad, dentist

·        Pete left Engle’s, not ready for bull testing > Pete spread gravel in parking lot > rode Junie, Pete rode Apple, beautiful ride
