Milliron Monday: Dog License 1 27 2020

June 16, 1938 - February 22, 2010

Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate the legacy of Pete Smith, D.V.M., and  Milliron: Abbott “Pete” Smith, D.V.M. The Biography (Monday Creek Publishing 2017). A graduate of Colorado State University and a well-known veterinarian in southeast Ohio, Dr. Smith continues to motivate and inspire.

January 31 is the deadline to purchase your dog license. Every dog over three months must have a dog license. Outside dogs, inside dogs, outside-inside dogs - all dogs. There are no exceptions.

Dr. Smith reminded his clients the importance of a dog license. He emphasized that purchasing a dog license is the law and that the license is designed to protect both the dog and the dog owner.

Living in the country, we have a lot of stray dogs. If a dog has a license or identification tag, I know it belongs to a neighbor (however, there is a strict Ohio Leash Law that prohibits dogs from roaming and without supervision). Many believe that if they have an inside dog they do not need a dog license, which is false. A license is designed to protect your dog. If lost, a dog with a license can be traced by the county Auditor's Office and they can identify the dog owner.

Where do the proceeds from the dog license program go? According to the Athens County Auditor's Office, funds go directly to the Athens County Dog Shelter to support the shelter. This is the case in counties all across the United States. Usually, proceeds from dog license programs are the sole support of dog shelters.

Can't make it to the Auditor's Office to purchase your license? Order online! The Athens County Auditors Office provides quick online ordering. Have questions? Call your local Auditors Office for more information... (740) 592-3223

Have a great week ahead!

Through captivating, powerful, and emotional anecdotes, we celebrate the life of Dr. Abbott P. Smith. His biography takes the reader from smiles to laughter to empathy and tears. Dr. Smith gave us compelling lessons learned from animals; the role animals play in the human condition, the joy of loving an animal, and the awe of their spirituality.
