Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate the legacy of Pete Smith, D.V.M., and  Milliron: Abbott “Pete” Smith, D.V.M. The Biography (Monday Creek Publishing 2017). A graduate of Colorado State University and a well-known veterinarian in southeast, Ohio, Dr. Smith continues to motivate and inspire.

Throughout our lives, we have many opportunities to fulfill our dreams and goals. As someone once told me, life is a smorgasbord, and we must choose wisely.

Pete, a charismatic young veterinarian just out of college, was given the chance to go to Australia to begin his career. With a young family to consider, Pete had to weigh all the possibilities.

"Pete wanted to go to Australia," Jody remembers. "He was offered a terrific job; they would pay all of our transportation expenses, roundtrip. We would stay for a year, but they would not pay the fare for my gelding Starboy. I told Pete that whenever he had the money all saved for Starboy's fare, we could go. Pete never saved the money. We didn't go to Australia."

Many more opportunities would come Pete's way. Living in Colorado through a dry spell prompted Pete and Jody to look for a new home where rain was in the forecast. Finally, moving to Ohio, Pete found rain and opportunity.
