Posterity

As an outlet for creativity on cold winter nights, my grandmother Noni crochets exquisite filet lace, adorning handkerchiefs, doilies,  collars, etc. She is a romantic and literary connoisseur. Her love of delicate, fine things is exhibited in her handiwork.

Filet crochet uses the tiniest of mercerized cotton strands to create a decorative lace. The French word ‘crochet’ (meaning hook), grandmother’s steel #14 (0.70mm) hook twists, pivots, and spins as she constructs rows upon rows of ornate stitches. Her tiny hands work from family treasured patterns, spending hours alternating chain and double stitches.
