Game Over by Derek Edgington

“A reluctant hero sent to save the human race.”
New Sci-Fi Epic Fantasy
 .99 cents through September 14!
derekedgington.com
by Derek Edgington

“Game Over” takes place in the distant future, in a place far, far away from the planet we call home, in the virtual universe called Elisium.

Imagine a society freed from crime and illness, one sustained by a single, eminently logical system that was designed to seek the ultimate perfection of humankind. The Sibyl System seeks the elusive potential for perfection residing within humankind, and, at some point in time, becomes its greatest enemy.

Now imagine that a reluctant hero is called— no, sent— to save the remnants of the human race that reside in the toxic wastelands that make up what was once proudly called Earth by its inhabitants.

Ekko Everlasting is thrust into the world of the game, “No Life,” but without any corresponding memories that might motivate him to value any one universe over the other… Ekko’s immediate concerns dealt with saving his own skin and regaining his lost self— exclusively in that order— not saving one universe, let alone two.

How would you play out the role dealt to you by fate?

Biography
I'm Derek Edgington, and I graduated from LMU in LA on May 7, 2016 with a Bachelors in Business Administration: Entrepreneurship. Sarcasm is my stock and trade; I'm a practitioner of all shades. Pretty much all the way from Fourth Grade onwards, you could find me with a book in hand. Ironically, this was a few years after my parents were told I had a reading disability. In high school I eventually traded in print books for ebooks, mostly because it was sneakier and could be read more easily during class. Although I self-published two books before I went to college (The Seven & Leviathan), I didn't publish any full-length titles during my time in University. Immortal: Curse of the Deathless marks my return to the publishing world.

Reach Out to Horses with Anna Twinney

with Anna Twinney
 Press Release

World renowned horse whisperer and communicator Anna Twinney shares her recent event in Morocco…
Anna Twinney works with a young student in Morocco.

Horse Whispering knows no border, no boundaries …

Unlike people, horses speak the same language no matter where they live in the world. No matter what breed they are, no matter the culture they live within, no matter the native tongue of their land … their method of communication remains unaltered.

World-renowned horsewoman, animal communicator, and Usui Holy Fire Reiki Master, Anna Twinney speaks English and German. More often than not, Anna can be found speaking “horse” and teaching others to do the same. Recently, she traveled to Morocco.

“It doesn’t matter where I travel to, the issues people experience with their horses are very similar,” Twinney explains. Morocco was no exception.
Throughout my travels around the globe, I find people either looking for or clinging to a system.  They want a method that works with 100% of horses, 100% of the time.  And when the method doesn’t work, when they have run out of “steps” and come to the end without the result they seek, the blame usually falls squarely on the horse.

“I met some incredible, kind, generous and enthusiastic people. It didn’t matter if they were rich or poor, experienced or new to the world of horses.  As with everywhere I travel, I was asked the same question, “How do I get my horse to…?”, or, “How do I get my horse to stop…?”.  I told them the same thing I tell everyone. In order to fix the problem, you have to know why it is happening (or not happening), and that cannot be solved with a system or a quick fix.  That can only be solved by communication.”

The challenge with a system is that, by its very nature, it is self-limiting and founded in linear, logical, left-brain thinking.  Every system has steps to follow, expected outcomes, and rigid guidelines. In horsemanship, if a system fails, the only options are to try it again, find another system, or blame the horse, which, in extreme cases, can result in abuse of the horse.
Anna’s methodologies, however, are founded in a fluency of the communication system of the horse.

Twinney sums it up this way, “If you are fluent in the language of Equus a whole world of partnership and training open up for you.  You begin to discover who your horse is and why he does what he does.  If your training methods aren’t working, you can understand why and adapt.  Be creative.  When you work in this way, you are partners with your horse, solving problems, exploring all that is possible, and creating a program unique to each horse.  For me that is far better, and a lot more fun, than simply training a horse and imposing a training method on every horse equally.”

While in Morocco, Anna demonstrated her work to many people from all walks of life and interests in horses.  It was this creative, communicative and cooperative approach that fascinated them the most.  To see Anna quietly speaking and working with the horses, treating each horse as an individual, and solving some of their most difficult issues right in front of their eyes was earth-shattering.  Many of them, for the first time, saw a side of the horses they had never seen and learned that harder wasn’t the solution, understanding was.

The Cursed Princess Book 1 of the Eumetadotos Series by Chrissy White

New!
Science Fiction Fantasy

Book 1 of the Eumetadotos Series

When Arianna is taken ill at the age of 9, only Ellavorn can heal her. In that moment, their lives are changed forever as the seeds of love have been planted.

Nine years later, Arianna is faced with the task of choosing a husband. Once she has rejected numerous suitors, Ellavorn proposes. On a trip, her parents are attacked and murdered. Ellavorn tried to save her mother, but it was too late. After the untimely death of her parents, Arianna breaks off her engagement out of grief, and is intent on ruling her kingdom alone. Little does she know of the challenges that she faces, and the hidden family secrets.

Helping her along the way is her friend and handmaiden, Abigail, the Captain of the Royal Guard, Joshua, who may turn out to be more than just a friend, Thomas, a boy who works in the kitchens, and several different Elves. Can they save the kingdom of Eumetadotos, or will Arianna’s kingdom fall?

Prologue

“Come, Ellavorn, there is no time to lose.  The princess grows ever weaker with every breath.”
“Father, why must we save this child…this human child?”  Ellavorn sneered at the thought of squandering his healing gift on a mortal child.  “She will die eventually anyway.” The disdain that Ellavorn had for humans rolled off of his body in waves as he spoke to his father.  “Why is this child so important?  She is a mere human.  Let her die.  She will only come to that in the end anyway.  Why prolong that agony?”
Armen turned his horse to face his son.  He looked him up and down.  Ellavorn’s long, sandy brown hair was drawn back from his face; his blue eyes were narrowed in disgust.  His lean body looked as if he were drawn tighter than a bowstring, ready to snap at a moment’s notice.  Armen knew that his son despised humans.  He had a lot to learn still.  Although he was 107 years old, Ellavorn was still considered young by elven standards.  He was, however, the best healer in the elven kingdom.
“Humans are not as bad as you make them out to be.”
“Then why do elves not mate with them?”  Ellavorn mocked his father’s compassion towards humans.
“That is a good question, my son.”
“I will answer that for you.  We do not mate with them so that we do not taint our blood with mortality.  Death is a trait for them, not for us.  They are all destined for it.  Why not just let her die along with the rest of the human filth?”
“You know as well as I do that that is not true.  Many Elves have met with death in battles.  Besides, this is no mere human, Ellavorn.”
“What makes this child so special, father?  Why are we rushing to aid her?  Should we not be tending to our own people, instead of rushing to heal a human?  If we were to rush to the aid of every  hu-”
Armen cut him off.  “She is the child born with violet eyes.”
Ellavorn’s eyes widened in surprise and he gasped.  “Then, the prophecy is true?”
“It seems so.  This child is to be the great savior of our land.”
Ellavorn sneered.  “Exactly what is she to save us from?”
“That, I do not know.  But, I have seen what is foretold.  She does not know it yet, but, she will save us all from an untold evil.  We must save her or all of us will be doomed.”
It seemed to Armen that his son finally understood how urgent it was to get to the little princess’ aide.  They turned and rode off at a full gallop as if their own lives depended on it.
As Armen and Ellavorn rode up to the castle, they dismounted their horses, leaving them in the care of the stable boy, who was alerted that they would be arriving at any moment.  They raced to the princess’ room and flung open the door.  The sight before them was a heart wrenching one.  Queen Alexandra sat on the bed by her daughter’s side, holding her hand and weeping, while King Jasper sat quietly by the window, rocking back and forth in his chair, watching his daughter with a stoic face.  Princess Arianna, only 9 years old, thrashed with a fever in the bed, eyes closed, alternating screaming and moaning in pain.  Her chestnut hair was drenched with sweat, her face, ashen.
Ellavorn knelt next to the bed.  Arianna thrashed some more in the bed as he took her free hand in his.  He concentrated on her pale, sweaty face.  He said the healing words in his mind, and slowly, Arianna’s body relaxed.  He held onto her hand for a few minutes longer, making sure that the sickness had entirely left her body.  When he was sure that she was completely healed, he opened his eyes.  His blue eyes were met with the midnight sky staring back at him.
Ellavorn’s heart stilled at the sight.  He had never seen anything so beautiful in his entire life.  He had never felt anything like what he felt staring into this child’s eyes, this human’s eyes.  In that instant, the wall of stone surrounding Ellavorn’s heart shattered into a million pieces.  He finally understood the compassion that his father was trying to teach him.  He gasped inwardly when he realized that in that one instant, he had fallen in love with the Princess Arianna.

Riding Marwari: Indian Cowboy Saif Patel

Riding Marwari: Indian Cowboy Saif Patel
by Gina McKnight
Archived Article from the August 2016 Issue of Florida Equine Athlete
No duplication without permission.

Traveling around the world, now residing in his home country of India, Saif Patel is a horseman. His riding photos and long-sleeve white shirt with Marwari written down the sleeve caught my eye. I connected with Saif and we talked about his horses, riding, and much more.

With his Marwari horses, he has captured the art of roping cattle. Saif explains, “I am not sure if you are aware of this, but my stallion Tarzan is the world’s first Marwari horse to be trained for roping and cutting, and I am the first cowboy in India to also do so. Tarzan is fully trained by me, and to my surprise, he has natural instinct to work with cattle and has no fear whatsoever.”

And what about his long-sleeve, white Marwari shirt? “The Marwari logo shirts, I had them custom made,” Saif explains. “Three of them here in India and lots of people asked me about them and are interested in them. I thought about selling them. It’s a good business idea, my own clothing line for Indian horsemen in future!”

GM: When did you learn to ride?
SP: I grew up in a small village in Gujarat state, India, there were not many horses in the area at the time. At the age of 12, myself and my elder brother befriended a caretaker at a nearby farm which stabled a few Sindhi breed horses, he allowed us take one horse for a ride and that was my first horse riding. Later, when I moved to Canada, I often joined trail riding classes and that's when I learned more about horses and riding.

GM: I’ve seen photos of your Marwari – Badboy Badal and Tarzan – they are gorgeous. You write that Badal is “meanest and baddest as ever and he is a big goof.” What horses do you currently stable besides Badal and Tarzan?
SP:Currently I have two Marwari stallions, Badal and Tarzan. Badal is 6 years old, he has very unique personality, very naughty, and playful. He is also an escape artist, he always figures out how to open the stable doors and window and slide out of his halter. He loves to play with my dog (a Rottweiler), they are both inseparable. Many of their videos are on the net and they are well known in the area.

My other horse Tarzan is 6 ½ years old Marwari. Contrary to Badal, Tarzan is more serious and calm type. I believe he is a type of horse who can learn any discipline, he is well trained for western disciplines. I often share his photos and videos on social network.

GM: Your photos are amazing. What enticed you into the world of photography?
SP: Thank you, I picked up this hobby in Canada. Since I enjoy traveling and having been traveled around 50 countries, I wanted to preserve my memories trough photography, because I enjoyed so much, I am always eager to travel and see new places. My philosophy about photography is “the whole world is a big studio, you just need a camera and you can capture anything.” I dedicated my last 2 years in India capturing the beauty of Marwari horses and since I have great models at home, it makes it more fun and entertaining.

GM: Off all of your photographs, which is your favorite?
SP: Oh wow, there are too many favorites, but there are some that I consider the most appealing to eyes, also you might have noticed, majority of my images depict cowboy and western style photography, and that's something I enjoy the most.

GM: Where is your favorite place to photograph?
SP: I love the Southwest USA. there are so many places so unique such as Monument Valley, Arches National Park, Zion National Park etc.

GM: What is key to capturing the perfect photo?
SP: I never believe a camera can capture a good photo, a good photo is captured by your eyes and imagination, you need to have a good imagination to compose and create an image. Sometimes I develop an idea of a photo in my mind, also I need to find out perfect timing, lights and angles, so it takes days before I go for an actual shoot.

GM: Do some horses photograph better than others?
SP: To be honest, every time, I shoot photos, I feel like there is something unique about each shoot, each horse is different and each horses has unique personality, I find when they are free and you let them run, that's when you capture the real beauty of horses. Unfortunately, I don't get so many chances to photograph horses at liberty here in India because majority of horses are tied up and not many owners design facilities for them to run free.

GM: Besides your stunning photos, I enjoy reading your captions; they are inspiring. Have you thought about publishing a book of your thoughts and photos?
SP: My captions come from my mood and feelings, and every time I take a picture and see it on my screen, I just want my feelings to be woven with that image. Of course some are just purely for fun. I have many thoughts on publishing documentaries, educational videos, calendars, posters, books and if possible a movie. It might take some time, but I have been working on it.

GM: What do you do besides photography?
SP: When in Canada I owned a small transport business and here in India, I am just on a long vacation after almost living 20 years abroad. I spend most of my time with horses, training them, feeding them and for myself. I work out regularly to make sure I am in shape just like my horses. I also meet up with many horse enthusiasts in the area and discuss about riding and how to improve the lives of our horses and try to educate people on how to be better riders and stay away from using cruel methods.

GM: What horse training methods do you use?
SP: I train my horse on my own with the aid of some friends from nearby village who also own horses and are eager to learn. My training always involves disciplining my horses first. Since they are hot blood stallions, they can get distracted easily. My training programs are designed by me, I am more of a military type of guy and I prefer strict discipline when it comes to horse riding, such as I am always dressed up when I am on a horse. My horses are always well tacked up. They have set schedule for riding, training and rest. I give my horses lots of freedom, they are well fed and they get to stay in modern and comfortable stables. I think that is the key to prepare them mentally and get the best out of them. To me, it's always performance. I love working with Marwari horses, they are responsive and they have great temperament.

GM: Do you have advice for those looking to buy their first horse?
SP: Buying a first horse, my advice is simple, always know your goals and your own capacity.

GM: Do you prefer Marwari over other horse breeds?
SP: I just love to ride horses, no matter what breed it is. In India, I travel far to look for some beautiful indigenous horses such as Kathiwari, Marwari Sindhi, etc., and so far I have ridden all three major breeds. I always take pictures and shoot videos, also I interview the owners asking them to tell me more about their horses and whey they keep them ( all my interview videos are on my facebook page).

GM: What does horsemanship mean to you?
SP: To me, my horse is my trainer and a partner, if you can understand your horse and learn from him, both will be in perfect harmony; be gentle, patience and caring, you also need to spend time with your horse not just only when you are riding, but when he is inside the stall, when he is grazing, and when he is in the paddock. A well trained horse is a blessing very few can have.

GM: What’s the secret to a happy life?
SP: Can I say “get a horse and a dog?” Haha, to me, learn to appreciate and be thankful for what you have; follow your passion, value those who care about you.
