Jackson, Ohio — September 3, 2026. Monday Creek Publishing announces the release of Sun
Spots, a curated collection of beloved newspaper columns by longtime
Jackson journalist Ed Clark, with an official book launch event hosted
at the Jackson City Library at 6:30 PM. The project is produced
in collaboration with the Lillian E. Jones Museum, whose archival
support and historical expertise helped bring Clark’s voice back into print for
a new generation of readers.
A Voice That Defined a Community
Ed Clark (1923–2009) spent more than five decades
chronicling the daily life of Jackson County and the surrounding region. After
serving in World War II, including combat at the Battle of the Bulge, Clark
returned home to southern Ohio and began a career in journalism that would make
him one of the area’s most recognizable storytellers.
He wrote for several regional newspapers, including:
- The Jackson Herald
- The Jackson Journal-Herald
- The Telegram
His column Sun Spots blended humor, local
happenings, personal anecdotes, and the unmistakable cadence of Appalachian
storytelling. Clark’s reflections on community life — from Main Street
merchants to church suppers to the antics of his wife Patty (“the Redhead”) —
became a cultural touchstone for readers across generations.
A Museum Partnership Rooted in Local History
The Lillian E. Jones Museum partnered closely on the
development of Sun Spots, providing archival materials, historical
context, and insight into Clark’s legacy. The museum continues its mission of
preserving Jackson’s cultural heritage and invites readers to explore its
exhibits and collections. Museum Website: https://www.lillianejonesmuseum.org
