August has soaked Hocking County straight through, and Monday Creek is carrying most of the story. Days of heavy rain have pushed it past its banks, sending water across meadows and hayfields that usually sit calm this time of year. The big round hay bales look like stranded islands now — half‑submerged, darkened, and ringed with muddy overflow. The smell of loam and creek water hangs in the valley, thick and familiar. With the bales saturated, mushrooms are popping up almost overnight, pushing through softened straw in clusters: tiny pale caps, broad fleshy fans, all feeding on the sudden abundance of moisture. Even with the flooding, washed‑out roads, and long cleanup ahead, the land keeps doing what it does — reshaping itself, sprouting surprises, and reminding us that Monday Creek has a rhythm all its own.
Shopping in Logan Ohio
One of my favorite shops to frequent in Logan is Flowers by Darlene. The flower selection is super. Finding a unique gift is easy. I love wandering into this enchanted shop. Go when you have plenty of time to browse - so much to look at; potted plants, seasonal flowers, antique knick-knacks, exclusive gifts, homemade crafts. Darlene’s has that rare magic: you walk in for flowers, and you leave with a bit of charm.
