Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate 
the legacy of Milliron Farm and Clinic, 
Dr. Pete and Jody Smith.

A continuation of Jody’s Journals.

January 1982

·        Fixed dinner > dewormed horses > Sweeney’s took oxen to blackberry meadow > On calls with Pete

·        Early church > rode Junie, Pete rode Apple, took Streak > to Hartley's, vetted horse > watched videotape of QA World competition

·        Work at clinic desk > got groceries > church at 6 PM > prepare oven lamb > twins top of hay meadow, put them in barn between haybales, brought them down cat cage, very muddy

·        To Charleston with Pete on calls, dinner with Nancy Bonnett, Nancy went on calls with Pete > home at 3 am, lamb injured under haybale, kept it by woodstove, tried to feed it, it was dead by morning

·        Mr. Fryman here > very cold, pipes frozen, Pete put wood in woodstove > went to church, OU Inn for dinner > water frozen in barn

·        All faucets, all buckets froze, bad day, try to drive sheep to garage to water them, they wouldn't follow Sassy > Eric was here for dinner

·        To Charleston with Pete on calls, Nancy Bonnett’s dinner

·        Used Puff to bring sheep to water > Pete, Eric put pay bales around side of the house > vet call to Pomeroy Mike and Debbie Jones, horses into grain > CJ's with Eric/Pat > Pete’s car wouldn't start, called Pat to jump > Used Streak to bring sheep down to garage for water, 2 black ewes, 2 sets of twins

·        Will, Pete, put up sliding gate, lambing pens > Pete, Eric, Pat here for lunch, played darts > went to library to make copies of clinic articles, nice talk with Katherine foster, John Johnson brought groceries up the hill for me with his Rover

·        Fed at barn, snow again, beautiful drifts, water to barn, drove sheep down to water with Puff, worked at desk, Pat and I went to lunch at Perkins, saw Paul Lewis > Pete and Jan added insulation under house, haybales around the house

·        On call with Pete to Windy hills > new lamb twins, one male, one female, ears were frozen, brought them down to house

·        10° below at 5 AM, call from Byron Miller about calving case > my ewe had twins, one male, one female, ears frozen, brought them all down to the house and put them in the dog cage by the woodstove > walked down after newspaper, went to bed early very tired

·        Two lambs died, put kids in with ewe, turned Faline out, took nap > lovely ride/snow with Pete, he rode Apple, I rode Junie, took Puff and Streak  

·        Work at barn > Eric stacked wood on porch > Faline 2 qts milk > Eric Pete here for lunch > put lamb suits on little goats > Eric, Pat, Pete here for dinner, fell asleep at table

·        Pete, Tim, worked on logging truck

·        Slept in > milked Faline, helped little goats > worked at desk, wrote letters to mom and dad, Abbott, Betty, ran errands > Pete went to meeting in Marietta

·        J, Gary, Bob, worked oxen, had hot cider > shut up baby goats > went with Eric to Columbus, ate at Roots on way home > milked Faline


February 1982

·        Worked at clinic, took short nap > Pete bought ox sled from John Sheridan > Eric, Pat, Pete here for dinner > Fryman at clinic >

·        On calls with Pete > went to barn, napped, Perkin’s lunch > went to saxophone recital and movie

·        Worked a barn > swept porched, washed off top of freezer, short nap > went to clinic

·        At barn Pete, Eric, bareback pad/hackamore > work at clinic > went to church prayer group > Dave Smart cut hair > caught Pete napping at barn > read by fire > 1:30 AM sheriff's office called about dog

·        Worked at barn > to Thompson's oil/gas, slides of Austria > went to crazy movie, then went to hear music Mr. Bojangles O’Hooley’s

·        Christian education class with Reid Huntley, church buffet at Old Coach Inn > worked at clinic no In week J, Carl and Carol S. here for lunch > tied Junie and Eric’s gelding up

·        Worked at clinic > I rode Junie, Pete wrote Apple around checking lambs, deformed black lamb, huge black ram lamb dead, normal white lamb, put in pen

·        Pete on calls > to clinic, worked at barn > Eric fixed dinner, tofu, vegetables, very good

·        Took school desk to museum, ran errands, got groceries, car wouldn't come up hill > to barn, black ewe/lamb > Catherine Dewitt called

·        Gas well turned off, worked at barn and clinic, potluck dinner at Eric's  

·        Wrote letters to mom and dad > worked at barn/clinic, dog and cat surgeries > watched last two selections of brass concert > CJ's dinner, O’Hooley’s

·        Made bank deposit, sorted mail bills > Paul Lewis called > Christian education class at church, coffee hour Croxford’s, buffet

·        Worked at clinic > Marshall, Bob, wife here Tim S. > Pete took a nap > I rode Junie, Pete rode Apple, light rain > read by fire

·        Doctor Fugate treated corn, got new shoes > Caldwell’s at fairgrounds, sandwiches

·        To Amish farm with Pete, two families, beautiful children, vetted Standardbreds > Harry Yoder at clinic with Belgians > 1:30 AM at barn, little goats out

·        Went to church service > Ron Muhn, checked furnace/electric switch breaker > on calls with Pete > to barn, put out extra hay > to movies > back to clinic in the evening and read by the fire

·        Turned “Bobbysocks” little lamb out of pen > milked Faline, left clinic, went to Post Office > worked at desk

·        7 AM left for Columbus OVMA meeting, keynote was by senator > checked into Hyatt Regency, went to seminars, talked to Dr. Sharp, Dr. and Mrs. Akers, etc. > Eric working at clinic

·        Prayer breakfast, Dr. Akers and Lyle spoke about Haiti and OVMAP > Pete introduced speaker > we walked to Trinity church > checked out of Hyatt > Pete seminar > I went to general sessions, saw Sheila/Sam Theiss at Godfather's pizza in Lancaster > home by 8 PM > check the barn, put goats in

March 1982

·        Work at the barn, to lower pasture, walked Billy goat kid > feet and hands sore, allergy (??) > cooked pork roast > Pete in surgery early > went on calls with Pete > went to chamber orchestra concert

·        Worked at barn/clinic, insurance agent here > fixed tie ropes for lanterns above feed bin > Streak out, put him back in yard > went to CJ's for lunch with Gerry > Richard Dreyfuss movie “Whose Life is it Anyway?” excellent movie, then to O’Hooley’s, play darts, listen to music

·        Reviewed notes from OVMA meeting with staff > fed at barn, helped Eric put horse in three times > read by fire, fell asleep

·        Up at 3 AM, worked at desk, wrote letters > sheep blood for OU lab (Dr. Lawrence) > Pete on calls > Phil Henry Toni Clark traded ganders > went on call with Pete to Amish farm, farmhouse cookies, lovely dinner > Dick Betty Friedman here > Pete fell asleep

·        To church, coffee hour > Apple at Windy Hills, crossed highway brought her back, put her in a stall > new lamb with black ewe > car had two flat tires > 1 o'clock attorneys, 2 o'clock court motion for summary judgment

·        Early church, I used Pat’s car > I rode Junie, Pete rode Apple, took Puff and Streak > put blinders on harness bridle > drove Junie, Pete said Eric's horse had knocked him down while checking gate

·        To church, ate an Old Coach Inn with Pat and Brent > worked at clinic, vaccinated Larson's cat > read some from your Urantia Book

·        UP at 5 AM, I did dishes, worked at desk > new lamb from young ewe > Pat helped me feed at barn

·        Went on calls with Pete to Thompson's > went to prayer group > staff dinner at CJ's

·        Worked at barn and clinic > Pete and Eric rode over to dig out bulldozer  tracks > Eric’s mare was out > I rode around, down Hooper Ridge, etc.
