Dr. Pete and Jody Smith.

1976

July

·        Went after sheep > K. Foster practiced dogs > cut Pete’s hair

·        Gaited Puff – bike, down highway to bridge and back > finished cleaning out Pete’s drawer

·        Judy G drove, picked up K. Foster, Charleston Show, Puff BOW 1 pt

·        Took “tea” to Pete > worked on “Judge’s list”

·        Dipped sheep, used Bess, Jim, Kanga, Ruff – ran out of water for dip, finished dipping ewes, Pete baled hay

·        Tracked Bess, Song did poorly > Paul, un-waterlogged well pump > 4H

·        Put sheep in paddock with Jim > tracked Bess, took Charlotte

·        Bess, tracked; laid short track for Puff > x-rayed Puff’s hip > put my sheep thru formaldehyde > Tom Wagner, wife, here to see burros > put sheep in paddock with Jim

·        Tracked Bess, Song > Dave Coen here

·        Church Lotte went with us; buffet, OU Inn > Stock Dog Clinic, Bob Evans Farm > Pete baled hay > flash flood, sheep drowned, hay, fence, lane damage

·        Gravely part to Wakefield’s > Conformation Class, Dayne Jones, picked up Judy G

·        Ate at Perkins with Pete > put sheep in paddock with Jim, cut down thistles, let Puff run, fed burros, Sassy

·        Rode Cricket, Pete rode Sailor, I took Jim, checked hay, sheep, saw Mrs. Connor berry picking > 4H

·        Picked up trash in sign field > J Jones laid track for Mr. Thorn, storm, didn’t track

·        Polished furniture > went in town, supper at Sportsman with Mom/Dad

·        Ate buffet supper, Upper Sandusky > went to Sunset Motel to see Mom/Dad

·        Gaited Puff with bike, flat front tire > Pete cleaned Snoppy’s teeth, pulled one > Mom/Dad here for dinner > put sheep in paddock > Everett’s here, Pat, Pete, Herbie, worked in hay

·        Met Mom/Dad, breakfast at Perkins > ground meat for Puff > Blaze very lame, rode Cricket, J rode Apple, sawed tree off Hixon’s fence line, Luna month on ground > Herbie helped Pete get baler, etc., ready to hay

·        Rode Cricket, J rode Apple, took Jim, found 2 ewes, 2 lambs alive; Cricket pulled up lame front, put gates up at sheep shed > 4H practice at Fairgrounds with Katherine’s group > Station wagon didn’t make it up hill > J Cedar Point

·        Rode Cricket, took Jim, got 40 head ewes, lambs out of meadow, put them in house paddock > Pete rode Sailor, I rode Cricket thru Phillip’s Place, put half dozen sheep in; ewe, lamb escaped, rode back up Dutch Creek, carried Jim on Cricket > J Jones tracked Bess > John Hanson here overnight

·        Water up again, checked on sheep > short nap > herded flock of sheep back onto Phillips bottom from Marquis field > worked Puff

·        Put ewes, lambs thru tanks into hill paddock with Jim, put salt in for sheep, fed at red barn > Pete treated Blaze, put shoes/pads on front > caught stray dogs, GSD bitch, Husky-type bitch > Pete, Doug, Lotte to Charleston

·        Picked up sticks, etc., in alfalfa field b Connor’s > to Church > ate at Frisch’s > napped > worked Puff > watched Olympics

·        Released Husky-type bitch to owner > rent after rake parts at Boggs > Pat rode bike in for basketball game > picked up Judy G, Spice, to Parkersburg, Conference

·        J an Lotte rode Cricket, Apple > Doug cleaned out, bedded horse shed > 4H > to movies

·        To town, bank deposit, returned tattoo-er to AVH, got RV from Theiss, drove red truck to get groceries > moved ewes to alleyway, hill paddock > 4H

·        Took GSD bitch to dog pound > took red truck to Columbus after tractor parts, formaldehyde, stopped at Eastland > J Jones tracked Song, I tracked Song

 

August

·        Left for McKinstry, Canfield Fairgrounds

·        Laid track for K. Foster > checked fence, walked around lower field, let Puff run, herded sheep down thru alleyway to lower field with Jim > Mr. Sorrell here to see about dog run > made peach pie > took Puff, Bess, Boo, rode bike path with Judy, Spice; Mary Jo, Thumper, stopped at Judy’s

·        J worked Boo at fairgrounds > put geese in snow fence corral with Jim > 4H

·        Mom/Dad stopped on way to North Carolina, Snoopy retreated for parasites > check on car which ran off Dutch Creek Road into our fence > rode to tracking conf with Judy, Joyce; Puff, straight track, did well

·        Worked with Connie, Polly, retrieving > large black, white dog, smaller dog had lamb down in hay meadow, followed them towards Lucas’ > rode Blaze, looked for sheep, bedded down sheep shed with hay > rode Blaze again, looked for sheep > Jim Smith called

·        Up at 5am, dipped sheep and used Kanga, Jim, Ruff – ran them thru again, formaldehyde, dewormed; Kanga killed groundhog

·        Church, Kemmerle sermon > Jim, Diane here > rode Blaze, J rode Apple, Diane rode Cricket, Jim rode motorcycle, went after tractor with Pete > watched slides

·        Loaded station wagon on lowboy > 4H practice show > CC rode with Judy, J, Boo, swim party, fair

·        Herded ewes up to water tank with Puff > 4H Dog Show Fair, walked around fair with K. Foster “Chauncey”

·        Laid track for Song > worked at desk > nap

·        Tracking, Puff did well, straight track > left J at fair horse show, walked around fair with Pete

·        Mansfield High School 20^th Reunion, Ellis Hall, stopped at Gary’s, home at 3 am

·        K Foster, I laid track for Chauncey > Mr. Sorrell started my dog run > went after maggoty ewe in bottom pasture, dead before we got her to barn > Confirmation Class, Puff cut paw, rt front

·        Pete to Charleston > went after roofing

·        Went after cement, belt for mixer, Pat quit working for Pete > Mr. Sorrell finished dog run > walked down after newspaper with Kanga

·        Herded in sheep, sorted off wether lambs, resorted, took most of ewe lambs, sold approx. 210, used Kanga, Jim, Ruff > took Bess down after newspaper

·        Up 3 am, Ravenna KC Dog Show, Judy G, Puff BOB, 2 pts, beat bitch special, at Cleveland South Holiday Inn

·        Chagrin Valley KC > Puff WD, Best of Show, 3 pts, Finished Championship

·        Pat painted dog run > Confirmation Class, Judy, Joyce, switched dogs

·        Pete and J to Charleston > worked at desk, wrote letters

·        Worked with Connie, Polly > Bev Krivesti picked up Boxer pictures > Judy G rode Blaze, I rode Cricket, J rode Apple, herded 2 ewes, 5 or 6 lambs down from hay meadow to paddock with Jim

·        Ran sheep, Western ewes/lambs, thru formaldehyde > 4 Western lambs dead, drained, scrubbed water tank

·        Church > Jan, J, tracked at Jones’ > gaited Puff with bike, let him run in sign bottom/creek, practiced whistle commands, chased steer; I played basketball with Pat; let dogs run in paddock

·        Pete filled freezer with beef Doug got from Marietta > CC Class, Bev and Judy

 

September

·        Cleaned barn > rode on bike path, rain

·        SEOAV missed boat ride, looked at horses at Broughton’s, dinner at Lafayette Hotel

·        To State Fair with K Foster

·        Church, OU Inn lunch > brought ram over in Sorrell’s trailer (29); got hit by ram, hurt tailbone, right thumb, dewormed rams > picked up Pete in hay field > J Cincy with Kinzelman’s, P overnight Chadwell’s

·        Hay fever, very bad, 3 prednisone am + pm > went to Marietta after firing iron, took Puff, saw 3 Amish buggies, stopped at bookstore (used) got 8 dog books, 1 horse > Jerry, Jolene Hartley here for lunch > wrote Betty, Abbott, Mom, Dad

·        Pete worked on baler, baled at Ball’s farm > took plot to county engineers, picked up AAA packet > gave salt to Western ewes, rams > 1^st ATC

·        Biked with Puff, 2 rounds, quite, spine hurting, let Puff run > took plot into lawyers > Pete, Doug baled hay > picked up Judy, tracked Song with J > cut Pete’s hair

·        Left for Kutztown, PA > Barks County Kennel Club Show, Puff 5 pt, BOW

·        Arrived home 2:30 am, Marge’s wolfhound on road > Pete x-rayed my spine

·        Put lightning rods on house > Pete re-x-rayed my spine > Puff, Kanga swim in pond > ACKC at J Croxford’s house

·        ATC member’s class, Humane Society, took publicity shots for match

·        Pete, Kathy, to Charleston > picked up deed, took it to county engineers/planners – closed > picked up Mary Jo Thompson for tracking; laid track for Mr. Thorn, J tracked Song, did well > Pete, I ate at Hungry Mouth, went to see “Swashbuckler”

·        Royal Lipizzan boy here overnight, breakfast > took plot to county planners again > Frank Johnson reset Apple, new shoes for Sailor, Cricket in front

·        Put rams thru formaldehyde troughs, took them up to hay meadow > Pete, Doug put Western ewes, lambs thru formaldehyde

·        Church, lunch BBF > painted pond pasture shed

·        AAUW book sale, Marietta > Pete put BC bitch “Kate” and Jim in dog run

·        Took Jim, put sheep on hill from Chadwell’s hay field > to Dr. Hamilton

·        Pete up 4 am, baled at Meigs, rained > J to horse show with Laird > went to Franchester Farms, Border Collie Trials, rained

·        Walked up in hay meadow with Pete to check grass; brought down electric fence > ATC
