The Gift-Knight's Quest, by Dylan Madeley

New Book Release!
Available in eBook and Paperback

“Chandra had yet to fathom why Jonnecht could not have lived and ruled for many long years, or why it was so urgent that she ascend immediately.”

Chandra never asked to rule Kensrik, but fate took a strange course. Known as a usurper and sorceress by most and traumatised by all that has transpired, she is forced to make use of the few loyal allies she has in order to hold together her restless empire. In an attempt to identify and defeat the conspirators who inadvertently landed her in power, Chandra risks putting the lives of many in mortal danger, as well as her own.

Derek is an aimless wanderer – the youngest in a lineage that has long fallen from nobility. He finds himself summoned by tradition to serve a family historically considered his bitter enemy. As he journeys down the same path a fateful ancestor once travelled, he struggles with personal demons and begins to reconsider his loyalty to the mission.

Duke Lenn found one true cause in love and it cost him everything. His legacy shaped the present in which Chandra and Derek find themselves. Now their choice will shape the future of Kensrik...

The Gift-Knight’s Quest is set in a new and vividly imagined world, written with delicate prose that will allow the reader to explore with their imagination. Inspired by authors such as Michael Moorcock, J. G. Ballard and Roger Zelazny, it will appeal to fans of fantasy and historical fiction.

Return to Cedar Hill by Jacie Middlemann

Available in eBook

In search of something she can’t quite put a name to Mary Lane returns to the place her family has called home for almost two hundred years. Some would say she was looking for a new beginning, and others who thought they knew her well would insist she was starting over. All that mattered to Mary was that she was once again in the city nestled along the mighty Mississippi. And in returning to Burlington she feels as if she is finally coming home.

But as she takes on the long project of restoring her grandmother’s small house the privacy she thought she long desired isn’t turning out to be all she expected it to be. Then before she knows it her cousin Casey arrives at her door desperate to find refuge from the high pressure job she can no longer sell her soul for…and live with. The price has become far too high. But unlike her cousin Mary she knows exactly what she’s looking for. A new beginning that allows her to look in the mirror each morning and like who she sees.

Together as they grapple with the changes in their lives the two cousins discover long hidden answers to old family secrets. Secrets that lead to a family mystery neither ever anticipated and worry what the answers they may find will mean. The family saga seems never-ending as new answers seem only to lead to more questions.

But it is Mary’s unplanned ownership of the family ancestral white elephant down the street that brings even more family members unexpectedly to her door in the middle of the night. Her Aunt Charlie arrives to once again walk through the home she’d grown up in. More…she came longing to be free of the cloistering and often smothering concern of her grown children. Traveling with Charlie is her young granddaughter, nineteen-year-old Mallie, who wanted to make sure her grandmother got where she was going safely and who dreams of something far different than what her parents dream of for her. Not long after that Mary’s cousin Carrie arrives in search of her missing mother. Though the mother-daughter relationship between her Aunt Charlie and Carrie is a sometimes uneasy one Mary knows her cousin is guided primarily by her deep love for her mother. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of Carrie’s brothers. With their arrival Mary finds her small house is once again crowded the way it had been in the years of her childhood when voices filled the quiet of the night and laughter reigned over the everyday concerns of life.

Before long the five women find new purpose for the elegant family home down the street and a new business venture they all have a part in. Joining them is a new friend whose own connections to their family unexpectedly goes back generations. Together the women persevere to reach common goals and in doing so each find deep wells of strength, determination, and resolve.

Return to Cedar Hill is the story of family. Both the family we grow up with and the family we find along the way. It is the story of where we go when we need support in our best and worst moments. Where we turn to when life throws all it can at us. Then more. It is the realization that the where we go in these times is the who we go to. Family. Mary Lane knows in coming back to Burlington she is coming home again. And while so many of the family that brought her there in the past are gone their spirits live on in the city they never stopped calling home.

Return to Cedar Hill, the first of the Hills of Burlington series, is the story of six contemporary women, family and friends of different generations yet drawn together at a time when all are at a crossroad in their lives…and searching for something they’ve not yet found.

Review
This book kept me up very much past my bedtime - which is the mark of a good story. I just didn't want to put it down. The characters are thoughtful and interesting and just when you think you have the story figured out, something else happens. If this were made into a movie, which I think would be wonderful, it would be classified as a "chick flick." Thoroughly entertaining and thought-provoking.

NightRacer
A Sci-Fi Thriller
Reviews
“This thrilling story takes us to an alternate world in the future after the Great Disaster on Earth. We meet NightRacer, a former Earth cadet who’s on a mission to find his daughter. As the story takes shape, only bits and pieces are revealed on what really transpired before the Earth was nuked. It’s like picking up the pieces of the puzzle from every chapter and trying to make sense of them as more secrets are revealed. The narrative style effectively shows NightRacer’s inner struggles as parts of his chemically-erased memories come flooding back in. It captures the seemingly uncontrollable fear and the sometimes overwhelming confusion that further complicates the situation he is in.

“It’s easy to be emotionally invested in NightRacer because he’s a well-drawn out character with an unclear past and an uncertain future. Though he may not be a complex character from the get go, the element of not knowing parts of his life make him a bit more complicated. His interaction with other characters is superbly written that it does not give away (at least not straight away) who’s on his side and who’s not. Then the plot twist hits you hard and you’d willingly suspend your disbelief just because you realize how clever it is.

“The author masterfully creates a world and populates it with compelling characters that you become deeply attached and start to actually care about how the story would unravel. With a clever plot and fluid writing style, NightRacer is an absolutely thrilling sci-fi read.”

NightRacer
A Sci-Fi Thriller

Review by Cat Jones
“I’ve been a science fiction fan since I was old enough to watch Star Trek so I’m always happy to come across a promising new author (or at least new to me) in the genre. Dinu Paladi’s sci-fi fantasy “NightRacer” takes you to a futuristic world of spore blizzards and Devil’s Grass and touched towns full of soulless addicts dreaming of strawberry fields.  The story starts out following sixty year old Colonel NightRacer AWOL from base and resigning his position as Chief of New Arizona’s Security as he embarks on a search for his daughter, Hellen. After the Great Verdict he had his memory chemically erased, but as the story unfolds he decides to recover what he’s forgotten. What he comes to learn is that life as he’s known it is an illusion, and what he discovers will change his world.

“This is a story that draws you in gently before quickly picking up speed. With an unlikely protagonist and a slowly unfolding world, its hook is subtle but strong. Dinu Paladi’s world building is brilliant in its bleakness, and the descriptive style of writing brings it all to live without going overboard with the detail. It’s a story I found impossible to set aside once I started reading, and the unpredictable plot makes it impossible to guess what might happen next.  NightRacer is a constantly evolving character as well, and his journey is a sort of rebirth that was fascinating to follow.

“Overall I found it to be an all-around excellent sci-fi story that’s as much personal journey as it is fantastic sci-fi adventure.”
