July 1983

·        2:30 am picked up Pete Stop-n-Go, Doris [Cadillac/vet car] oil all over the engine > went to Columbus with Pat, got license, shopping Marshall’s > got Lolly in for Josh, Ann to hitch to cart > ground drive Junie in Ann’s ring

·        To clinic > Pete, Eric rode > Ted, Katherine Foster at Clinic, to Lamb’s Garden, movies “Return of the Jedi”

·        To Church/Croxford’s > ground drove Junie > Pat pulled cart to Windy Hills, helped me hitch Junie, lead him around ring > clinic till 8:30, Pete, Eric, tepee/barn, Junie’s feet, Pete put out turtle jigs

·        Took Pete’s truck load of wood, went to Mansfield, scenic route, visit with Ann Katin and family > to cabin, played horseshoes, etc. sailboats > dentist appt

·        Pete, I, lunch, Perkin’s > Jim A. at clinic > lunged Junie, ground drove him, lead him then drove him to Windy Hills ring > Pete worked on plumbing, oil tank

·        Pete to Charleston > ground drove Junie, hitched him, cleared briers, New Covenant, picked berries, drove down 550 to B Road, Hooper Ridge, Sweet Hollow, back down McDougal > worked at clinic, paid bills

·        To clinic/barn > Robin Byers, friends here > Pete shot lamb (lop-eared yearling Wethor) > groomed dogs > worked at clinic, Pete on calls, I went with him > party for Jessica at Carol James,’ rode back in high-wheeled cart with Victoria B., rode ox

·        Early church > washed Junie, oiled harness, drove Junie to Dow Lake, gave children rides (Parish picnic) > napped > Pete rode Apple > James Bond movie at drive-in

·        To clinic/barn, put sheep down on bottom, put snowfence up

·        To clinic/barn > Pete on calls, Stewart W. here overnight > to Pizza Hut with Stewart, Pete, Merriman’s

·        Dewormed sheep > Pete slaughtered three Wethors, sent to Seaman’s > Pete, Pat, Eric, went after straw, old Blue, logging truck, broke down in Lancaster > Tim, Pete, took “Scotty” after logging truck

·        Pete, WOUB interview, I dropped crates off for Phyllis Roberts, got watch (Passbook) > Karl Meeks helped unload straw, bed down sheep shed

·        Pete on calls > to clinic/barn, milked Faline > re-oiled bridle, side saddle, rode Junie, Jessica rode ox, Ann Howland rode Winnie around through woods

·        Worked at desk briefly 4 am > left for NYC flew from Columbus > to hotel late, Irish Pub, boat ride, very nice

·        AVMA meeting

·        AVMA meeting > to Central Park, Cathedral Street, John the Divine, Met Museum of Art, Rosa Bonheur’s “Horse Fair” > meetings > ate at airport, flew back to Columbus

·        Drove over to look at Strata well > to clinic, Mr. Fryman > got groceries, picked up lamb, Pat and I to Mansfield, took 2 lambs

·        To church > rode Junie

·        Up at 5:30 am, picked berries, to clinic/JoAnn

·        Turned Pat’s horse up in pasture > Pete, George Seager, picked lots of berries, put some in freezer

·        To Charleston, Stewart went, horse died

·        To clinic > drove over to look at Strata well, talked with Bev Lucas, Ed Linscott at barn > to pizza/movie, O’Hooley’s with Jerry, Ann, Eric, friends

·        To church > drove up to see Negro Den, picked berries, Strata well pumping, left berries at Jan, David’s

August

·        To clinic/barn > Karl Meeks reset Junie, Apple, Junie abscess on right front

·        Pete, Eric, cleaned out, bedded down horse shed > Pete on calls > picked up yard, stung twice by bumble bee > to barn, took dog manure to hay meadow gate, Puff, Streak, chased sheep

·        To clinic, ran errands, groceries, car at McKinstry’s couldn’t be aligned

·        To Jan Crall’s, kittens > to Charleston with Pete, Galley Bridge, dinner with Bonnett’s/Slim, home at 1:30 am

·        Clinic, Bob Henley, insurance > Pete on calls > listened to remainder of Prairie Home Companion

·        Church, K. Foster here again, lunch/Croxford’s > Jessica left for Michigan > napped > rode Junie, Pete rode Apple by Strata well

·        To clinic > went to fair with Pete, tested race horses > to barn, V. B. came up, went down to look at Darlene Smith’s puppies

·        Pete, Pat worked on clinic wall > to barn > County Fair, watched part of dog show

·        To clinic, errands > to State Fair with Pete, tractor pull, dog house, wildlife, horse show, etc.

·        Flea combed cats > to clinic > haircut > Pete, eye glasses > rode Junie, briefly, looking for Badger (Pat’s horse)

·        To Fairgrounds, watched Eric run > to Hoon’s party at party house Lake Cutler [?]

·        To church > Liz Linscott’s, Bill L’s shower at OU Inn, Hartley’s,  Bookman’s there > to movies

·        Larry Smith’s party

·        Early church, met Pat there left for North Carolina, 9 ½ hours

·        Helped Mom/Dad move some things from cabin to townhouse

·        Took load into townhouse, Pat, Daddy, played golf, ate at lodge, very good; Mom, I got post office box, drove around golf course, road up in hills

·        Took load into townhouse, drove on home

·        To barn/clinic > Robin Byers pig roast, met Jessica there, 3 am to 8 am, slept there

·        Breakfast at LK, listened to harp, “Let God Direct You” > watched Joleen Hartley, 6th/7th Ladies Roping

·        Swam at Jeanne/Jim’s, went to dinner theatre “The Merry Widow” delightful > ate with Jim, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Lolly, Unity ministers/writers > swam again, slept on couch/floor

·        Bought breakfast for all at Marriott > left for Ohio, stopped at Kentucky Horse Park, lunch there > car forced off road by pickup pulling out to pass, Pete got it back on road/very tricky > Pete, stopped by Highway Patrol going 66 mph $31.00 fine > left Jessica at Stewart W’s to get car, looked at a couple of injured colts > Pete office hours, 6-11 or so > Marshall here, brought some clothes (sweaters for Pete/Pat) > to barn

September

·        Pat, Chris Higgins here for breakfast > Jessica here briefly, left Banjo, Ides > to clinic/barn > CJs with Pat/Pete, to movie “Easy Money”

·        Dusted ceilings/spiderwebs, worked at desk briefly > to clinic/barn

·        Pete on calls > to barn/clinic > Banjo contest, Old Settler’s Reunion, Herbie/Kay Everett, Lawrence Skinner, etc.

·        To church, Old Coach Inn > to clinic briefly > oiled saddle bridle > rode Junie around fields, lower woods trail, took Streak, Colonel > Pete/Pat worked on Pat’s basement > Pat rode Badger, Pete rode Apple, I rode Junie, Pete tried to carry bucket of stakes on Apple, temper/fit by white gate

·        Craig, Pat, here for breakfast > picked up yard, Bullet got out, caught him down by clinic, took him to pond

·        Craig, Pat, here for breakfast > groomed dogs, including Bullet > worked at clinic, paid bills > DQ – Mike L’H, Tim Sch. There, to movie “Mr. Mom” O’Hooley’s

·        Craig, Pat, here for breakfast > worked at desk briefly > to barn

·        Pete, Stewart W, I to Charleston on calls, ate at Bonnett’s, left Charleston by 8:30 pm, home by 11

·        Went with Pete to Bob Evans Farm, Pete lecture/slides, went to Standardbred farm, Stewart’s house, Byers, etc., music

·        To church

·        To Scioto Downs – Pat, Stewart, Charlotte H., picked up Jessica

·        To church > Dairy Barn craft fair > napped > rode around farm, Pat, Pete, back in dark

·        To clinic > Jim, Jeanne, Stewart W, Jessica, Pat, Charlotte, to CJs O’Hooley’s

·        Jim, Jeanne, left, left cat here “Honey” > Karl Meeks reset horses, Pete Equine Ivermectin

·        Drove sheep down with Colonel, Junie, dewormed > rode Junie, “wagged,” ate at CASA

·        To clinic > Pat did horse’s feet, milked goat, etc., > Pete and I off for Columbus, stopped at Ogg’s, did horses

·        Pete upset stomach/flu > Kal Kan Internal Medicine Seminar to Zoo, napped > Schmidt’s dinner with Parker, Esther, Beck, Dixieland

·        Pete seminar > Jessica, I, sheepdog trials, talked to L? > took Jessica, Teresa out to dinner > Chinese “Blue Lotus” > Pete jogged (at home)

·        Got Junie from cliff pasture > to clinic/barn > used Junie for A.I. test of stallion

·        Eric/Pete here for lunch > to barn, wagged, took Puff > Pete, Pat here for dinner > worked at desk

·        To clinic > Pat, I, did horse’s feet > tired, fell asleep in chair

·        Pete, Stewart, to Charleston > worked at barn, wagged, took Colonel, Puff, Streak, walked down after mail > Stewart, Pete back at 9:15, coffee tea, worked at desk
