October 1982

·        Work at clinic, Mr. Fryman at clinic > turned out ducks

·        Work at desk briefly, herded sheep with Colonel, escaped to Lucas’ grove twice, dewormed sheep, missed several > Pete on farm calls > Eric/Pete/me to Lam’s Garden > 12 to 2 am lovely moonlight ride

·        To church > Paul Bunyon Festival > rode in Sweeny’s wagon, 2 mules pulled it > back to clinic > read

·        To Columbus with Ann Howland, trial cancelled > lunch at Clock Restaurant, with Ann, Gerry, Bruce Wentworth: to Lazarus > stopped at auction service, looked at buggy (12,000), tractors, etc., stopped at Farm/Fleet, ate at Roots > I jumped rope, up/downstairs 20 minutes > walked, jogged to cliff pasture and back

·        Went on farm calls with Pete, Amish farm, etc. > Pete rode Apple, I rode Junie around hay meadow, brought Faline back, did chores

·        Walked/jogged to cliff pasture, took Pull, Colonel > Karl shod horses, Pete wormed horses

·        Went with Pete on calls, fairground, Lairds > Pete got boots at Mt. Leather, I got jogging shorts at Sports Inc. > Will, Pat, unclogged water drains

·        Will Lewis here about ceiling/drains > worked at clinic > picked up Brent, Pat, chamber music recital, CJ’s, Studio 38, midnight movie

·        2:30 am, Pete treated Mike Jones’ horse here > early church (3 ½ hours’ sleep), Lew Kemmerle > Ann White Schaub Smith brought horse, Pete, I rode to Dow Lake stopped at Bruce/Marilyn W., cake/cider > Pat, Mom, Dad, me went to Perkin’s > to Windy Hills, looked at Ann’s horse, talked

·        Eric scrapped car with blue truck > to clinic early > Pete jogged, short nap > to barn, took Colonel, Puff, walked, jogged to white gate, checked fences/water gate gap, steers came running over – terrible burrs

·        Fasting > walked, jogged to cliff pasture, raspberry meadow, took Puff, Colonel

·        Eric’s birthday > Pete, Pat worked in woods, here for lunch > took change down to clinic > Puff x-rays, let burros in house

·        Worked at clinic > burros wormed, floated, vacs, cut Lolly’s long teeth > Pete and Michelle on farm calls > Pete here for dinner, back to clinic > listened to Prairie Home Companion > put salve on Junie’s foot

·        Church, Lew Kemmerle > 10:15 harp L Jennings > spaghetti dinner Sr. Citizens Center > rode Junie, took Colonel, Streak, woods, trail up 2 hills; found Eric’s halter, 2 lead ropes on Nickle/Ridge trail > Pete worked in woods

·        J Lucas over, Pete worked on broken fence > haircuts Dave Smart > milked Faline

·        Quarter Horse Congress, reiners

·        Pete worked in woods, walked/jogged meadows with Pull, Colonel, Streak > Pete checked Ruff’s foot, inflammation > Pete on calls > met Pete at recital hall, flute, harpsichord, cello, lovely > to CJ’s, O’Hooley’s, midnight movie “Fantasia”

·        Christian Ed Class/church > rode Junie, took Colonel, Streak, Pete rode on around through brush > very tired > Pete on emergency call > Dad called, Snoopy ill

·        Took Pete’s car in for body work > picked pumpkins, gourds for clinic > wrote letters Mom/Dad, Betty/Abbott

·        Answered clinic phone (all in surgery) > Pat, Pete, me in blue truck, Root’s restaurant, to airport (Chicago surgery forum) > picked up 70 bales of straw outside Canal Winchester

·        Answered clinic phone > Pete called about cat > drove Junie, took Colonel, hit rock on lower Connor trail, broke cinch, fell out of cart, Junie got away, broke breeching; spilled cart, led him down to bottom, re-hitched him, ground him up hill

·        Rode Junie, took Ruff on lead thru hay meadow/rode by oil well, took Colonel, Streak

·        Pat, I, picked up Pete at airport, met Bise [?] boy, got 2^nd load of straw

·        Terrible odor in stream > worked at barn > Pete on calls

·        Pete ran Hopper Ridge > to church, late > Sweeney’s, mule driving, took plate of lamb

November

·        Warm, beautiful day > Pat helped me get sample from stream, foul smelling

·        J worked oxen > got more stream samples > Carol L took pictures, found dead deer by upper watergap, many minnows, clear water > took Eric after Pete’s car (repainted) > helped water filly in stall, milked Faline in yard > Pete on calls

·        Turned cistern pump on > Larry Smith, girlfriend, brought outhouse for party

·        Pete lent Eric $450 for chainsaw > worked at clinic, paid drug bills > worked at desk

·        Got cider, kettle, groceries for party > Bob’s birthday, took leg of lamb > read by fire, briefly

·        Early church > Bonnett’s here, woodcutting party > Junie, spooky with cart, Jessica helped me, unhitched him, rode him > party – Hartley’s, Rutter’s, Harter’s, Ted Foster, Brenner’s, John Sheridan, sister, Larry Smith et al, Eve, Stacey, Mary Ann, Bookman’s/boys, Ann, Gerry; Josh, burro cart rides back to barn; 2 legs of lamb, 1 venison roast, 2 gallons hot cider

·        Castrated Mr. Fleas > Pete ran > Pat took back keg > worked at barn > tired, fell asleep at table

·        Gathered sheep, Pete led Faline; dewormed sheep, injection, trimmed feet, sorted off 2 old ewes for Sherry, 2 Wethors (yearlings), spotted ram lamb, took Sissy to open hay meadow gate > to clinic, took keys down for Joette to take to Pete > recorded flute music from radio

·        Newt picked up 2 old ewes at clinic > walked up to woodcutting area (above blackberry meadow)

·        Planted 100 medium tulips, 20 daffodils (Pete, Eric, me) > rain, nap

·        Jogged up to teepee, blown over, 4 poles broken > wrote letters > ate at Crazy Cat Café (Christian Coffee House) > went to see “Dinner with Andre”, O’Hooley’s, turned away at Reggae benefit

·        Church, J met us there; lunch, Croxford’s, Pat, Brent came > split wood with hydraulic splitter/chainsaws/oxen

·        Ran errands, lunch at CJ’s > recital chamber music, last part of movie “The Missionary”

·        Pete to Charleston > Marley had white chicken down in garden > fixed chicken wire/chicken run > rode Junie around thru woods, lower trail, took Colonel, Streak, walked down after newspaper > J, Pete on calls, home at 3 am

·        To town, license plates for clinic car > K. Foster worked dogs at clinic > Pete ran around block

·        Worked at clinic > Pete, Michelle on calls > phone out of order

·        Jerry Hartley’s birthday > to church > Pete, I, rode in light drizzle, not too cold, pleasant ride

·        Basement drain plugged, flooded, Tim S. dug up tiles, full of roots > left for New York, took Ruff, beautiful drive, arrived at Betty/Abbott’s

·        Pete split wood, I carted, stacked it > Jim arrived, dinner

·        Worked on firewood again > rested, laid on couch, listened to chamber music

·        Drove to Long Island, picked up J and Gary; looked at their decks, landscaping, watched reminder of soccer game; lunch, seafood restaurant; Jones Beach, walked in water, drove until 2 am, stopped at Red Roof Inn, Fremont, West Virginia

·        Up 6 am, looked for diesel fuel > arrived at church, late > back to clinic, Pete put up bulldozer type barricades against hunters

·        Pete, Jerry S, Mark, Jan, hunted > Mr. Fryman at clinic > rode Junie, checked for hunters, saw Bob E.

·        Pete found hunters, 20 feet in on our side of motorcycle club line; hauled buck in for Jan W; doe in from 2^nd meadow; called motorcycle club/hunters on our land

December

·        Worked at clinic > Pat, court > hauled large buck to Dutch Creek for Bob E., talked with Perrine > Pete cooked steak

·        Hauled doe in, shot by 2 hunters from truck on 550 (dark green pickup, silver topper) > cruised woods, put up signs along lower fence line, cut log off trails to Phillip’s place, saw tree frog > stopped hunter (Elmer B.) put up signs > Jim/Pat, rode Junie back from blackberry meadow > Pete skinned out deer, took both to cooler at Windy Hills > Pete saw wild turkeys, gobbler, 2 hens, flew out of large trees

·        Up at 1 am > Jim D. here, burros in alfalfa, put them with Apple in clinic barn, got Faline in from hay meadow, sheep wouldn’t come, put billy in hay mow

·        To clinic, briefly > got sheep, Faline in from hay meadow, rode Junie after them, put up signs, cut up some limbs in trails Calendine, 3 hunters stopped by road/gate while I was repairing signs > saw Ed L. on Marquis Ridge > Pete hunted about ½ hour, ate dinner, left for Columbus airport, Equine meeting in Atlanta

·        Burros out, put them in clinic stall > worked at barn > to church, interesting Rabbi > to clinic, no one there, stayed until 3 pm, turned oxen out, saw Jan Crall’s dog, GSD

·        Lost 5 lbs. in 2 ½ days on the Cambridge Diet > read until 12:30

·        Apple out again > J. Hartley here, brought invitations > worked at clinic, made a few phone calls, overdue accounts > took all the dogs for a “wag”

·        Pete back from Atlanta > worked at clinic, ran errands

·        Helped J move desk, chair, etc. to Columbus (Teresa K. apt), took car > Eric returned > worked Puff, Colonel, briefly; K. Foster – sit, down, stays

·        Worked at clinic > let sheep, Sissy run, chained together > Pete, Eric on calls > R. Muhn fixed locks > listed to “Prairie Home Companion,” read by fire

·        Airbed flat again, slept on couch > to church, lovely cantata, solos, string trio, etc.; wine, cheese, Morgan’s OU Inn > Pete to clinic > used Junie, Colonel, herded sheep out of hay meadow > Pete rode Apple, took Colonel, Streak; saw A., Josh riding > turned off bottom well, top well on > went after deer carcasses at Windy Hills; all spoiled

·        Worked at clinic/barn, read by fire

·        To Charleston with Pete, ate at Bob Evans, Gallipolis, saw Carl Webster, ate at Leslie’s/Bonnett’s, back at 2:30 am

·        Worked at clinic/ran errands > Pete to Windy Hills, Santa Claus

·        Made fudge > Catide party at “The Junctions,” watched movie

·        Staff Christmas dinner at CJ’s, plus J. Hartley, Debbie Sheskey/sister; 104 days since cat bite at clinic

·        Pete, Pat to Charleston, back early > Jim called

·        Open House J. M. L’H’s > church, Jim, Betsy, Katz; hot chocolate, cookies, etc.

·        Large breakfast, opened presents (dog book, shirt, National Geo, unicorn, ice trays, etc.), made eggnog > rode Junie, bareback pad, Pete rode Apple, took Colonel, Streak, around thru woods, down streams, began to rain > Pete, Jessica, emergency horse surgery > roast beef at Windy Hills, Joy MillerUpton/son there

·        Jim, Betsy, left > Pete to clinic, end door to clinic was open > to church, picked up Pat > buffet, Old Coach Inn > nap > rode Junie, Pete rode Apple, saw 7 deer Phillip’s place

·        Pete to Windy Hills, treated blue calves > slept in > read long chapter in Urantia Book > Jessica rode Apple, I rode Junie, took Colonel, Streak, saw 7 deer, beautiful day, windy, warm > Pete on calls > Pete haircut, Dave Smart > to movies, dinner CJ’s

·        Worked at clinic, to library/copying > lunch at CJ’s, C. DeWitt, Jessica

·        Pete, Pat, on calls to West Virginia > to hay meadow with Streak, Colonel, Sissy > Finished Urantia Book!!!! > bottle of champagne from Pat, read by fire, fell asleep early
