July 1981

·        Worked at clinic, Karen began scraping wood stove > Sycks brought back lamb “Doris” > oiled halter, boots, breast collar

·        Federal Landlord, discussion about paying taxes > lunch, fish place, Gallipolis, to Jackson on calls with Pete, dinner at Nancy Bonnett’s, speeding warning

·        Conner's went to movie with us Raiders of the Lost Ark

·        Dewormed sheep, Jon Walis helped > went with Pete to Logan, on call, llama > Marshall’s birthday

·        To Church, OU Inn > Hartley’s Cannonball II > palpated Persimmon NA

·        Work at clinic, took books from Helen Whitehouse’s to Church > ran errands > Pat hit by chain, 35 stitches, emergency room

·        Work at clinic > showed land to lease/Dillinger > PCA Jackson office > vet calls to Laird’s, Hoon’s, picked up Sidney at Court Street Collections > worked at desk > Pete late horse surgery

·        To clinic, talked with gas/oil lease people, Lewis, etc. > J’s party, airshow, fireworks at Windy Hills

·        Sorted papers > met J in town, sidewalk sale, lunch at CJ’s Deli, awake at 3 am, talked about land

·        Lovely early ride, took Puff, Streak; came back after Pete, rode again, walked/jogged about 20 mins on way home > all to Church, OU Inn > to late horseshow Athens Cty Fairgrounds > rode, beautiful, lovely moonlight

·        All here for lunch > to clinic, Nancy Bonnett, Jamie > peacock, broken leg > bedded down barn > Bookman’s horses here

·        Letter to the Editor, Court Street > talked to Tom H. about dog fines, talked to Lavelle > to Bookman’s Studio 38 (John Coakley)

·        Picked up survey, John B., Engineer > went over to see logging, took Puff, stopped to see David

·        Stopped at Bank, option on Harris/Brooks property > went on calls with Pete, Charleston, looked at car “Golden Spirit” by Zimmer motorcar, home by 9:30

·        Work at clinic, talked to Pat about where to find files, etc. > Pete and I went down to look at Harris/Brooks property, talked to K. Foster > Dave Smart cut hair (Pete’s, mine)

·        Pete and I rode, worked at desk

·        Rode – Ann, Josh, Jerry, 3 others, Pete, me > to Church, OU Inn, Dairy Barn Quilt Nat’l > Ohio River w Tim Schmittauer, Pete waterskied, rode innertube, picnic Grace S. Fielders > James Bond movie > Pete on call, I slept, very tired

·        Clinic, Paul Lewis > Pat, Brent, picked up TV set > walked down after paper

·        Pete, J, freeze-branded oxen > picked up deed People’s Bank > J borrowed cat size box trap for Joette W > J took me to meet Pete (to Sweeney’s, steer show, London, Ohio > on calls to Limolie, Sturbois

·        Tim cleaned barn with bulldozer > worked at clinic > card to Abbott

·        Went on calls with Pete > Gil Ead called

·        Worked at clinic 10-5, Gil Ead called

·        Worked at clinic

·        Loaded up for ride, Buddy Sycks truck > oxen out, put them back in, missed Church > Johnnie Price, 81^st birthday ride, Zaleski Horse Camp (Turner Ridge), Ruth, Robin, Larry, rode PasoFino horse/mare > returned trailer > John Hopkin’s horses here

·        Worked at clinic > Jim, teeth pulled > talked to Paul Lewis, Eileen; Will Tevis > Steve J. picked up canoe

·        To clinic, horse surgery > Pete worked on bulldozer

·        Groomed Streak, sprayed dogs > Joanne, Debbie Croxford picked up Doris, lamb > 4H picnic, Thompson’s > trailered Linscott’s horse > to movies

August

·        Worked at clinic, lunch at Perkin’s with Pete, Tim, Pat, Brent > groomed dogs > baled hay, drove Pat’s truck, stacked bales for me, saw Janet’s girls

·        Early Church > baled hay > to Bonnett’s, picked up horse > at clinic, worked on turnovers

·        Sissy loose, killed 14 chickens > talked to Paul about buzzards

·        Met Star Jones, Hannah Walsh at Perkins > Pete signed deed at Eslockers > rode Junie, took Puff, Streak; Pete pulled hind shoes > helped Pete bring in round bales

·        Marshall here for breakfast > clinic closed – Fair, Paul Bunyan > Marshall, Steve, Brent, Pat, Pete, here for dinner > worked at clinic til 12 pm, very tired

·        Got up at 4 am, to clinic, took Pat’s truck > church prayer group > Pete, Jim A, hot tub, Windy Hills

·        Up at 5 am, to clinic, lunch with Jerry Hartley, Pete, restaurant on 13

·        Early Church, breakfast at Perkin’s > to clinic, fed horses, walked dogs, etc. > Pete treated horse at Windy Hills > rode thru Dutch Creek bottom, by M. Wells > long night, fleas, powdered/sprayed cats, awake most of the night, slept in chair

·        On calls with Pete > to Fair, talked to Jackie, Ray, watched Demolition Derby with Herbie, Kay Everett

·        To Claire West’s > to Charleston with Pete, air filter damaged, walked into Bonnett’s home 1 am

·        Worked at clinic, lunch at Perkin’s with Pete, Pat > back to clinic, Pete napped > walked up to hay meadow to see bush hogging > dewormed horses at Windy Hills, hot tub, strong chlorine > dead lamb behind formaldehyde panels

·        Pete on calls > Mansfield High School class reunion

·        Mansfield, to Lutheran Church with Aggie, napped, dinner, came home by way of 13, Granville, to Rutter’s, drinks by pool, treated foal, treated animals at clinic

·        Worked at clinic, combed Puff/flea bath, took deposit in > Jan Crall, Hartley’s drive-in

·        Worked at clinic, black lamb dead by dam; white lamb to barn > clinic insurance man

·        White lamb dead, dewormed sheep, Gene Perry helped > rode, took Puff, Streak

·        Took Sissy up to large doghouse > to State Fair with Janet Mercer, K. Foster (drove) > Sissy loose, Carl took her down to clinic

·        9:15-5:00 clinic, put new collar on Sissy, put her up at barn

·        Horses, burros, across cattleguard, put rope up > to Church, OU Inn lunch > Pete scythed weeds, garden area > rode around thru Phillip’s place, back up 550, talked to neighbors

·        To clinic, talked to Fryman’s

·        To clinic, Pete surgery > saddled horses, rode up road thru fields, bush hogging, 8 pm oil/gas leasing seminar

·        Pete’s car wouldn’t start – to Charleston on calls, back at 3 am

·        Pete pulled Junie, Apple’s shoes, Karl Meeks shod horses

·        Ran errands > Hoon’s party “Tree House” warming

·        To Church, Tony Coleman Communion Service > on calls, Clifford’s, worked with GSP > Perkin’s, talked with Lewellen’s, logged tree that fell on clinic > Jim, Jamey Bonnett here > rode Junie, Pete rode Apple, around thru Nadroski place, talked to Carol R.

·        Pete, up early, jogged > worked at desk > took dinner down to Pete

·        Fed at barn, bedded down horse shed > Pete surgery, ate at Croxford’s Motel, Debbie Lewis/Gassan calls

·        Worked at clinic > bad night, burros/cats comforted me

·        On calls with Pete to Charleston, yearling struck, ran over Pete at Hopkin’s, Nancy Bonnett’s

·        To clinic, turned oxen out in garden paddock > Gary Franklin here, dog treated > at clinic, talked to Lee Richards > birthday party for Gerry at Windy Hills

·        To Church, lovely flute music, OU Inn with Katherine, Johnathan DeWitt > rode, walked around thru woods, Pete gave Apple meds > went to see Zorro

·        Clinic, calls to Fairgrounds/Hutchinson’s > Deposition > Pete rode Apple

·        Got plat maps, etc., took items in for mineral/title search > lovely Irish music tape from Mimi Hart

·        To Church, OU Inn > lovely ride, Dow Lake trails, out Scatter Ridge to Mush Run, back along 690, talked to philosophy professor at Sylvia’s old place, guest from Hungary, lovely moonlight

·        To clinic, electricity out, storms

·        Will Rogers, OU English professor here, looked at books/desk > Pete haircut, ran errands, got groceries with Pat, saw movie

·        Went on calls with Pete, shot big pistol at clients

·        Oxen in yard > shoveled out, filled water tank in garden for oxen

·        To clinic, barn cement, Ernie B.

·        To Church, to clinic, trail thru Hixon’s (fence cut) > lovely long ride, store at Dow Lake closed, got pops out of machine, onto Dow Lake

·        To clinic, Pete horse surgery > Art Gish, CE Class

·        To clinic, to Wellston, Gallipolis on calls with Pete

·        Mr. Fryman, Pete here for lunch > rode over to John Wheeler’s to look at mare, saw fawn, very close in hay meadow

·        To clinic, picked up Ann Howland, Gerry to Ed Payne’s recital, excellent, dinner CJs

·        To Church, Reid, Shirley’s wedding, reception at Mike Morgan’s house > Pete backhoe water line, ditch at Windy Hills > watched TV, Johnny Carson

·        Went after horses at Windy Hills > Mr. Fryman at clinic

·        Pete horse surgery > short nap > Pete went to talk with John Hopkins, Art Gish’s CE class > dinner at CJs with John Hopkins
