of his deeply rooted religion, you always knew he was being himself.
Pete was authentic and that is what people respected.
Grant W. Smith, Grandson of Abbott “Pete” Smith, D.V.M.
Welcome to Milliron Monday where every Monday we celebrate the legacy of Pete Smith, D.V.M., and Milliron: Abbott “Pete” Smith, D.V.M. The Biography (Monday Creek Publishing 2017). A graduate of Colorado State University and a well-known veterinarian in southeast, Ohio, Dr. Smith continues to motivate and inspire.
Dr. Smith loved a good joke. April Fool's Day never passed without a bit of wit and whimsy. With a laugh that could make you laugh, Dr. Smith packed a collection of jokes and limericks that he would tell again and again - to the same clients, new clients, salesmen, employees, friends, and family.
But, April Fool's Day provides different opportunities than the run-of-the-mill joke or limerick. April Fool's Day is a day to catch someone off guard; someone gullible, naive, and unsuspecting. Employees and clients busy with work can be easy targets.
True life can be stranger than fiction, and what seems like an April Fool's Day prank can turn out to be true life, as in the time when a client was at Milliron Clinic with her little dog. The client's mother, who stayed in the car in the parking lot, had fallen asleep. Inside the clinic, everyone heard a harrowing scream. Everyone jumped to the parking lot to see what was amiss. One of Jessica's (Pete's daughter) oxen had managed to get his (large, horned) head into the mother's car window and thought that licking her face would be a good thing to do. The mother, waking up to ox breath and wild black eyes, had the scare of her life - a real nightmare. By the time everyone made it to the mother's car, the ox was lumbering back to pasture. Dr. Smith, in his Dr. Smith voice, said with stoic emotion, "Someone left the gate open."
Enjoy April 1st! 😃
